Description Here's another one of the Melee Trophy Crew...kind of.

Tamagon does have a trophy in the Japanese version of Melee, but it was removed from the English language versions.
His game, Devil World, was not released in the US but did come out in Europe, it also had a fair bit of religious imagery so maybe those details played a role in his removal.

As luck would have it though, the antagonist of Devil World (the Devil) went on to become a Smash regular as an assist trophy! He even got a significant role in Captain Rainbow while the game's hero himself was never seen again!

So I wanted to do right by him and include him in my project.

Devil World's kind of an interesting game in that, aside from maybe Hogan's Alley, it's the first ever completely original 1st-party Famicom/NES game (Well, original in terms of characters and setting), since it's neither a generic sports/tabletop game nor based on an existing property (Whether it's the arcade ports like the DK trilogy, Mario Bros., and Popeye, or some of their pre-video game stuff like with Wild Gunman and Duck Hunt).

Another fun fact relating to Devil World: Devil's the only villain Assist Trophy from a non-playable series (discounting the Rathalos, which I always viewed as "morally unaligned" (Though I haven't played a Monster Hunter game, don't @ me) and, from what info I could find through Monster Hunter Stories, can actually be tamed by Monster Riders, sorta like PokΓ©mon in a sense).Β

Eh, I don't know anything about Monster Hunter but I'd say it's a special case.

Pretty interesting information though!

I wonder if the reason the Devil has more significance than Tamagon is because the game is entitled "DEVIL World" signifying that the devil's actually the main character. That's what I would think if I never researched this game, at least.
Either or, your artwork never fails to impress! I like that you turned this Yoshi~esque character into something new and fresh!
Anyhow, I'm a sucker for a potential art giveaway, so I'm guessing the Bonanza Bros. from the eponymous game. Best wishes to everyone involved!

I guess that's possible, but I reckon the reason he showed up as an assist was simply because he had more potential to bring something unique to the role - Tamagon would probably just have to do some sort of basic attack.

I suppose. I always thought of Tamagon as a beta Yoshi, so their designs were too similar to have close to each other.
Of course, all fan conjecture

Is he the main character? Gosh this game does actually interest me

Yeah he is the main character.

I've never played it but it's basically a Pac-Man style maze game with a couple of extra mechanics. nothing ground-breaking.
