Hey look, another one.You might recall in my Robin [ fav.me/dc20n4y ] and Corrin [ fav.me/dc2158x ] pictures I drew them in such a way as to keep their gender ambiguous by obscuring their face. Unfortunately such a thing was not possible with Byleth. Not only because they have completely different body types, but also because male Byleth dresses like an adult and female Byleth dresses like a teenage girl going to a club.
My intention was to have the silhouette of the alternate Byleth in the background of each picture but because of this dark, ink-blotted background (and because I drew one of them very wide and the other very tall) there was no way I could arrange them to get it to work, so they just have to exist separately!
But at least it was a good opportunity for me to draw both the lance and the axe, completing the Fire Emblem trifecta.

All I can really add about Female Byleth, apparently while some people think she's cute, a lot of others think her design is terrible? Which...ok? I'm not even weird or attracted and bias about her, I'm just curious as to what the big deal is.
I can understand a few interesting stand points in her design, but compared to other "fanservice" designs, she doesn't really stand out. I think it's the weird glass pattern stockings, which while they are weird, they don't really seem that much of a big deal. I can say it isn't surprising that the female arguably has more drastic changes from her male counterpart, but honestly she doesn't feel any different from the other main avatar FE characters. She's not my favorite, but she's.....fine.

I tend not to fall too hard on either side in these matters, but while I don't really have a problem with the design itself, there seems to be a disconnect between the male and female versions.
I've never played the game so I could be way off here, but Byleth is a teacher, and the male Byleth looks like a serious, professional, maybe even stuffy character. Someone who's there to do his job and is maybe considered slightly 'square' by the pupils.
I find it hard to reconcile that personality with somebody who deliberately goes to their job with an exposed belly button. That's the key, without knowing the character itself, going strictly from their designs, they seem to have completely different personalities, when they're supposed to be the same person.
