Description Sometimes known as 'Roy's Replacement.'

Ike in Smash
Ike's bulkier frame was a point of debate in Smash Wii U/3DS but I think it was appropriate given his strength. A skinny Ike carrying around a huge sword and being super tough never seemed right to me.
And I don't use him very much. I tend to get on quite well with heavy characters but Ike never really appealed to me.

There tends to be criticism when a new Fire Emblem character is added for being 'yet another sword user' and I can see this being an issue for two reasons. The first is that is saturates Smash with swords, sure, but I think the bigger problem is that it doesn't accurately represent the Fire Emblem series. One thing I do know about those games is that not everybody has a sword. One of the basic mechanics of combat is the rock/paper/scissors relationship between the games three main weapon types: sword, axe and spear. But nobody in Smash used an axe or spear.
I am under the assumption that this is because none of the various games main characters use either of those weapons, but I really think it could lend a completely new feel to an FE Smasher and I wonder who might be the most eligible.

Ike in the Fire Emblem series
I am aware of the fact that Ike was a main character in two consecutive Fire Emblem games which is unusual, but it certainly does cement his significance in the series.
He is also known for his rivalry with the Black Knight, a character who I know has been posited by some as a possible Smash contender. A villain character would be nice, but might that be too many characters from the same game?

While it's true that there hasn't been a main character who wields an Axe (...Go away Hector, you're not a main character), this is not true about Spears - Ephriam from Sacred Stones did and he was just as important in the story as Eirika was, compared to the previously mentioned Hector who's really unimportant in Blazing Blade. The problem is that Ike's game was the most recent one when Brawl came out, and he became the most popular Lord in the west, leaving him behind in the dust.

I had heard about Hector before but I've never known how significant his role is.

I think I'll definitely look into which characters would be the best to represent each weapon so I'll keep Ephriam in mind!
