Description     I was flipping through my sketchbook when I noticed a sketch of a theropod dinosaur's torso, tail and legs. I had recently hatched a shiny charmander so I decided to turn my theropod sketch into the little guy. When I was looking at charmander I noticed that its posture resembled the way many people used to picture theropods to walk way back in the 50's, with their tails dragging on the ground in an upright posture (like Godzilla) so my version of charmander is meant to be a baby theropod-like creature which develops wings and a crest as it matures similarly to how tadpoles are born aquatic and limbless but develop arms and legs as they turn into frogs or toads. I think. I'm too scared of frogs to look up their life cycle properly. The head-shape is meant to be loosely based on a carnotaurus without their iconic horns. The snout grows as it ages until it resembles a tyrannosaur as a charizard.

Charmander ヒトカゲ

Lizard Pokémon

Fire

#004

  • Known for their short snout which grows as they age

  • The Standard Charmander has a cream underbelly. Some individuals will also possess stripes, spots & other such markings

  • In place of wings, Charmanders have powerful legs to hop around with

  • Two rattle-like structures constantly flick together to produce the spark

  • Methane from the stomach is released from the tip of the tail

  • Fire-proof skin

  • No crests or wings are evident at this stage of life

Some other notes:
There is a common misconception that if the flame on a charmander's tail goes out it will die. Do not worry, while it is true that the size of the flame can be used to check how healthy it is, if the flame goes out, the individual will not die. Charmander and its evolved forms can even stop the flow of methane to their tails for when shooting flames from the mouth during battle or during activities such as stalking prey or while swimming. They are also known to rub the "rattles" on the end of their tails together more frequently when agitated. This is a natural instinct for intimidating potential threats by producing a bigger flame.

Wild Charmanders and their evolved form are commonly found in warm or hot climates, from rainforests to deserts, but can adapt to just about any environment. In the olden days, Charmander and its evolved forms were commonly seen as threats and were usually hunted. However, the "golden" or shiny charmander was prized and were commonly kept by the rich and powerful. Legends also tell of how seeing a "black" charizard fly overhead was thought to ensure good health and longevity to the individuals it flew over. These were thought to be shiny charizards, but some theorize that these may have referred to Mega Charizard X.

The heavy amounts of hunting made them critically endangered and thus were one of many species voted to be given out to registered Pokémon trainers from Regional Professors in the hopes of increasing their populations and creating a greater appreciation for the line as a whole. Charmanders are commonly given in the Kanto region and occasionally in Northern Kalos.

Oh, and Happy New Year!
