Description     I decided I'm going to start posting some of my Pokémon related fan art from December 2014. I started doing that on my old account with Zorua , Vivlillon and Kingdra but stopped for the whole reason I made this side account in the first place- my watchers were not pokémon fans. I think. But I have around twenty drawings in total so it seemed like a shame not to post them all. To start this off here's Raikou! It's design is mostly based on a tiger but I think I also took a bit of inspiration from bobcats and lynxes for the ears and a lion for the tail.

Raikou ライコウ
Thunder Pokémon
#243 Electric

Raikou is an extremely rare feline-like pokémon- So rare they are one of many species with the status of "Legendary." They were not even regarded as real until a juvenile specimen was found in the Jhoto Region about seventeen years ago. Like many electric type pokémon such as the fulgurodentia (more commonly known as the electric rodents), Raikou produce electricity in a specific part of the body through the use of specialized cells; in this case the mane.

The mane is noted to vaguely resemble a cloud, which has lead to legends of how it carries a thundercloud on its back. From there it will usually release the generated electricity from different parts of the body such as its saber-toothed fangs or the tip of its tail. They usually only generate electricity when attacking, and the electricity goes straight to the inside of the body so riding them is considered to be relatively safe, a notable Pokémon Ranger even used it as a mount occasionally.

It also is known to occasionally use its tail as a rod to channel electricity from storms, which they are known to follow. Indeed, raikou are nomadic and tend to roam the world in search of them, making it extremely hard to track due to not sticking to a definite territory as well as being solitary in nature. They are noticeably widespread, with reports notable in Jhoto, Sinnoh, Kanto, Fiore, Oblivia and most recently in Hoenn.

They are also often featured in folklore, the most famous being the story of how it along with Suicune and Entei perished in the Brass Tower when it caught fire, being resurrected by the legendary pokémon Ho-Oh; although some modern folklorists theorize that this was meant to be an origin story of how Eevee was able to evolve into Flareon, Vaporeon and Jolteon as these three "eeveelutions" were also regarded as mythical in regions without natural access to Fire, Water or Thunderstones such as in the Jhoto region. Another origin story is that it fell to the Earth via a lightning strike. It is also regarded as one of the protectors of Crown City again with Entei and Suicune in the Sinnoh region. It is unknown why they are often associated with Entei and Suicune, but they were spotted together in the remains of the Brass Tower the same year the juvenile was found and again about a decade later.

As battle companions, Raikou is noticeably powerful. Despite this, they generally prefer to flee when approached rather than attack. They are also notably picky about those they deem "worthy" of being their masters. If the trainer does not assert their dominance it will generally see them as weak and ignore them. Because of this, Raikou is only ideal for trainers with a great amount of experience.

Really cool, the anatomy needs to be accentuated a bit more but other wise I like how you've done the shading !

Yeah, it's an old drawing and I think I didn't use any references so it could've been better. Thank you for the feedback, though! I really appreciate it!
