Description Food isn't the only thing females are concerned with when it comes to courtship. Sometimes when a female and a male are alone, she'll send him a few signal flashes with her colorful and bioluminescent skin, which may mean, "Hey, c'mere for a second." The male will approach, cautious in her presence, and respond through his own colorful signals, "You wanna mate?" She'll flash back, "We'll see about that." Much like those glowy Ammonites from Prehistoric Planet, SPOILERS BTW, SPOILERS!!! PREHISTORIC PLANET SPOILERS!!! Alright, you gone? Alright, anyways, if you haven't seen the bioluminescent Ammonites from PP, they have a really cool method of speculative courtship where they'll lock their tentacles together and try to synchronize their glowy patterns and waves. It's really cool and I thought, "What if Angler Mogs did something like that too?" Moving on, when two potential partners meet, the female will flash various parts of her body, and if the male matches them somehow, she'll accept him, and they'll mate. She'll carry her brood for a few weeks, accompanied by her mate, until she finally lays them somewhere safe, then the male will fertilize them for real and bugger off, as will the female. In just a couple days, hundreds of dull-colored babies will hatch, and it's likely only a few dozen will survive, as they'll either cannibalize themselves or they'll get eaten by something else. Or perhaps a larger Mog will eat some of them. Yep, Mogs can be cannibalistic sometimes.
