Description Mother Martyrs, AKA Maborussadonta magnificus, or simply "Mabbies" for short, are typically the most docile Dragopillars in the Venderrian bestiary, at least compared to their fellow colossal caterpillars. Unlike most Dragopillars, Mabbies don't raid gardens and vegetable patches very often because they're not as picky as their rude counterparts. For the most part, they prefer to eat whatever they can find in the forest rather than whatever the local farmers are working on. Martyrs can eat pretty much anything of nutritional value, from dead trees to rocks, garbage, shrubbery, and they'll turn it all into compost for new plants to grow later. They can eat healthy and living trees, but their favourites are the more dead and withered kind because they're crunchy and easy to digest. If there's not much vegetation though, they might resort to carnivorism and eat small animals or locals, but this is only a desperate measure and doesn't happen very often at all. They can also be domesticated and farmed as livestock, not for their flesh, but rather for something a little more interesting. Some have even discovered that they can be milked! (And whoever those guys were, they must've been doing some weird stuff with a Martyr) Martyrs have got these little bumps on their bellies similar to nipples that secrete a special, slippery liquid that helps them inch a little faster across rough terrain, like mucus on a slug or snail's foot. You can't just walk up to one and start extracting the stuff though, it's actually very important that you check if its a male or a female. Males aren't very fond of letting people access their underbellies, and they'll let you know immediately with a mean whack to the face with their antennae, and even if you earn the male's trust, you won't find teats, but just a smooth underside that secretes the special liquid through pores. Plus, their stuff doesn't taste very good even after filtering. The females, however, are much gentler and cooperative, but much like your average milking cow, you've gotta earn their trust through a few offerings of food and water. When she's done eating, she'll most likely flip onto her side and let you access her underbelly. There you'll find the teat-like buds that secrete the sweet liquid. Take out a bucket, squeeze the buds gently towards the container, then bring your spoils home, filter it juuuust right, and now you've got some fresh Martyr milk. The taste often varies, as its flavor mainly depends on whatever the Martyr has recently eaten, so it usually tastes earthy, woodsy, mossy, mildewy, and to a lesser extent, like nature in general. Yet in spite of this odd flavor, it's a pretty appealing drink, and if you mix it with various juices or other drinkable liquids, it'll amplify the flavor tenfold!
