Description Due to my slow progress with painting the white robes I decided it was time to consider the alternative, as I’ve mentioned before the only other colour than would suit them was purple similar to the sorcerer on the novel’s front cover. So after an evening of painting I ended up with this…

To be honest I didn’t expect it could work so well, I think the purple makes him look even more mystic and blends well with the rest of the model. I painted some gold icons round the rim but the dust effect covered most of them up.

I’m still debating trying it with white, however it’s hard to imagine the model working with that colour anymore. Anyway I’m anxious to hear feedback regarding the robe’s colour so let me know what you think?

Um....i don't remember...i thunk i was refering to either the armor compared to the more recent terminator version, or the blade because Farsught from the tau empire has a similar one and its bigger.

I think the purple looks good, and keeps in form with the art work. It looks awesome as always.

I was wondering where you got the bases that you have used for all your thousand sons?

Do you have much else to do, can you upload pictures of the whole collect now of thousand sons

very good looking. Nicely limited use of gold (trim, highlights, ect) The purple looks good as a softening colour to the red.

I think it looks excellent, it really works well with the rest of the colour scheme. I can't imagine white looking any better and I know I have always had a terrible time painting anything white. Go with this.

White is tricky to get right, at least for me. One dark splotch and I have to slop on like a billion new layers of white. And let's not get me started on shading white.

Purple is a classic colour for Thousand Sons and it does look very nice and as ~GARAWRGA said, making it a lot darker could be even cooler. Also, very dark robes could give a thematic hint of darkness to come.

But what if the robes were green? An "opposite" colour to red.
Would that clash too badly?
Just brainstorming here...

Yes, red and green contrast a little too well and besides I've already got a red and green army; [link]

I think if you made the purple really dark, verging on black it may work a little better (black wash it if you don't want to re-paint it?) . I do like it how it is though, The purple and red works you just need to make one less primary.

I don't see too much issue with the purple robes as, in the picture, they seem dulled down enough to not be super bright.

What's actually bothering me about the robe is the apparent "skirt" effect. There's no visible seam to it, which sorta detracts from the look. Do you think it's possible to paint in a bit of shadow somewhere to give the effect or am I being WAY too picky on something minute?

If you were to paint in a robe seam, I could see the use of white as a border, and inversely the purple could serve a similar function to a white robe.

All in all a fantastic job on the Term. Can't wait to see more

Personal opinion here, but I don't think the purple robes work with the red armour, but that's just me. Maybe if you went for a darker shade of cream, something similar to what you see on the Dark Angels robes?
