This is a mock of that pikachu kitten so often stolen and posted on dA which always ends up on the most popular page. I did it in a couple of minutes, quality isn't what I was aiming for here.

Have you seen "The Hunt for Pikachu" by Finalcutking on Youtube? They cast a real cat as pikachu, too.

Quite a few people think that pikachu resembles a kitten rather than a mouse. I can sort of see it as a cat. I never thought it looked like a mouse, though.
As for the video on youtube, I imagine using a cat would be much easier than using a mouse or even a rat.
