Description The good old fence myself and other photographers in the area have photographed so often. This is an old one that I edited for the first time. I did the raw conversion in CaptureNX2 for the first time, just to see what it's like. I must say I am impressed. Lightroom is wonderful for orginization, but I'm definitely going to be doing some comparisons when it comes to the actual conversion.

This is the sort of shot that must make most people feel something or at least imagine themselves there. I could see this being a great addition to the wall of a tasteful coffee shop.

This is the kind of simple, dramatic view I like. The simplest ideas are often the best.

Totally agree. Sometimes the biggest challenge lies in finding these simple compositions. Thanks for looking

there's a real richness and impact to this, love the compo and those slightly bleak tones

Thanks Adam! It's amazing how a long exposure adds impact to a shot. The slightly blurred clouds just gives it that something extra. Similar shots from the same day, but without the 9-stop just did not have nearly as much impact.

Meowgli In reply to prperold [2010-01-16 15:51:30 +0000 UTC]

yeah I guess the sky is somewhat bland, but the movement really lifts it.. have been wanting an nd400 for a while now, but money's a bit tight after splashing out on that "L" and I need other things first anyway... I'm guessing for shots like this that grads are pretty essential too, so will probably wait and get the whole lot together you used grads here too, ya?

Yes, a 3 stop grad. Cokin, hence the slight purple cast in the sky

Nice one, the classic fence..
Crazy to see how the level of sand have seriously decreased since your pic "Rainbow Fence" [link]

Great composition, and leading lines with the old fencing and pipe work. The contrast between the rust, and green on the pipes with the smooth sand, and water is a good one. I enjoy the movement in the sky as well, very well done.
