Description A lot of dinosaur paintings show some violence. I like to portray the more mundane things animals do. This scene shows Styracosaurs migrating to a new feeding ground near the sea. Tagging alone are small dromaeosaurs looking for a lift and a quick bite to eat, mainly dung beetles and other creatures that feast on the giants’ scat. Yup, I put a pooping dino in the picture. I am not sure if this qualifies as manure *oops I mean mature” content. I actually wrote manure first. Hope you like the picture, the detail is best seen in the larger picture and I think I overdone it. As I added more and more texture, the larger picture changed very little. So I’ll stop here!

Many thanks,

Blair

I am fairly sure dinosaurs didn't poop like that.

Do you do any illustrating for scientific journals? If not I suggest you go to your local museum and submit your work. Its truly on a professional level.

 Poop happens

If its an official emote, it can't be too bad

Love how the dromaeosaurs remind me of the small birds that follow cars and people in nature reserves looking for insects stirred up by the movement of larger things.

The little dromaeosaurs remind me of sparrows with their poses and just how they are in your picture and I'm sure, that they were that clever and behaved like this, so for me it's a very realistic scene (even more with the poop ) and besides, I think I don't have to tell you, that your style of drawing is great!

Many thanks Marita,

I was a bit nervous uploading a picture of pooping dinos,I didn't want to disgust anyone. But, I really like to put animals in their natural habitat and have them do ordinary things, I was hoping to make the picture appear as if someone went back in time and snapped a wildlife photograph. I used a tonne of reference material mostly of cattle and birds to get the feeling of mutual partnership.

Thanks again for the very kind words and all the best,

Blair

Thanks everyone,

I believe Dinosaurs lived long and productive lives, which some might even regard as dull. The mundane can be fascinating too.

Thanks again

It's great to see a more 'everyday' dinosaur scene- and a certatopsian depicted as something other than dinner! Styracosaurs were always one of my favourite dinosaurs.

Very true, there's an awful lot of violent T-rex pictures floating around. This is a refreshing change of pace.
That plant life looks especially photo-realistic. I like the details you added into the cracked mud and the Styracosaurs' skin.
Seems kind of ironic that switch the n out of the word, and manure becomes mature XD At least to me, especially the way you wrote it. I wonder if the words are somehow related...? Probably not tho

You're right, they do look like a pair of pilgrims on an epic journey.

But scientists believe some species actually migrated over long distances, like some modern day herbivores, according to seasonal changes, don't they? It must have been an amazing sight seeing hundreds of sauropods slowly moving along in single file or as a massive herd.

Lol, will be seeing some real mature content soon, like mating dinos?

Thanks Sky,

An entire HERD! Oh my, drawing two of those things was quite a job. I overdid their skin texture. Mating dinos, ya that sounds like great idea. It'll be fun to also depict their courtship antics.

Thanks again,

Blair

I remember some amazing documentaries back in the day when Discovery channel was worth watching ... they had quite a few ones about dinosaurs. I remember one that explored how long-necked sauropods had been evolved and how their bodies were built, like modern day suspension bridges, only 150 million years old. And they showed an animation of a walking Diplodocus or something, its neck and tail moved as a slow wave with each step. It looked truly amazing.

I also remembered this really curious documentary that briefly ventured into the area of mating dinosaurs and just how difficult it might have been for the extremely large species. An artist had made some fantastic depictions of different positions and some of them looked really awkward. I kept smiling to myself and thinking 'maybe that's why dinosaurs grew extinct' ...

Welcome. Your art is amazing.

Thanks Sean,

I really enjoyed drawing the texture on the styracosaurs, It was a real challenge when using the texturizer and distortion filters to get the wrinklely skin just right; then I handpainted the scales and bumps.

Again thanks for the fave and kind works,

Thanks Heather,

I just work a little bit each day especially when I see something that inspires me. Often I just keep adding to the picture. Sometimes I will use the clone stamp tool to replicate common objects like flowers and leaves, that sometimes saves a little time.

Thanks and happy painting.

This picture was inspired by the heatwave here in the southern US. I wish I lived closer to the water like these dinos do.
