The Beginning

The two mares ran through the forest at great speeds. The flowers around their necks bounced from the motion. The white smoke colored mare stopped in a small opening from the trees to catch her breath, the plum colored mare joined her. "I haven't had this much fun in such a long time." Orchid said with a small laugh. Schyler smiled warmly at her. It had been many, many years since she was able to run inside the forests of Equestria. Schyler was from ancient Equestria. She died millenniums ago, when she once ruled what is now known as the Crystal Empire. It had been a few days since the mare had been brought back to modern Equestria from a spell that had gone wrong in the Canterlot Library. She awoke in a cave, far out from Canterlot. She spent a day and a half there, until a mysterious plum colored alicorn appeared. Orchid is the daughter of Princess Twilight Sparkle and Princess Celestia. Orchid is the princess of nature, immediately, Schyler developed a fascination with her. The two had spent the whole day together. Schyler taught the plum colored alicorn small, ancient magic spells, and how to successfully make a flower crown. Orchid developed a fascination with this ancient alicorn empress the moment she saw her. Normally, ponies had much more colorful coats, and even more colorful and unique names. Schyler was a white smoke colored alicorn with dirty blonde hair. She defiantly didn't look like a modern pony from modern Equestria, let alone a modern alicorn princess. "It has been many, many years since I have been able to enjoy the feeling of fresh Equestrian air." Schyler said mellowly. Schyler was a rather mellow and calm mare, never talked too much, nor was very loud. Orchid smiled at her new friend. How interesting this mare was indeed. She had a sort of sweet and imitating nature to her. "It really has been such a day. All I planned on doing was collecting some daisy flowers for my mother, next thing I know, I'm being tackled by an ancient Equestrian empress." Orchid said with a laugh. Schyler laughed as well. She first found Orchid threatening and dangerous, now all she sees is a charming and kind mare, and quite beautiful as well. Orchid had found Schyler to be a strong and serious mare. For a bit, Schyler showed no emotion. No smile, no laugh, not even a look of anger or confusion, just blank. Since that morning, when the two had met, Orchid learned a lot about past Equestria, and a lot about this old Equestrian empress. She finds this mare to be kind and delicate, and very pretty.

The two were startled by the distant clashing of thunder. They started to feel rain droplets drip on their coats. "I should get you back to your kingdom, a pony of your nobility shouldn't be out in this storm." Schyler said, she then opened her wing and held it above Orchid. The plum mare felt her cheeks get warm. "Oh, you don't have to, if anything, you should be in the kingdom, you're a royal as well." Orchid responded with blushed cheeks and a soft smile. Schyler looked a bit shocked, but then the painful truth came back to her. "Was. I am no longer a royal, dear. But you are, and you shouldn't be out in this weather." The white smoke mare said in response. Orchid could feel what the mare was feeling. Nostalgia. Painful nostalgia. "Schy, it's fine, really. My mothers don't mind me being out in the rain, after all, I am the princess of nature." Orchid said comfortingly. Schyler sighed. "Well, I should still at least cover you from the rain." Schyler said sternly. Orchid blushed once more. The past empress of Equestria was getting soaked in rain, yet she only cared about keeping a princess covered from it. She was a protective and respectful mare, and quite charming and spellbinding.

It was quiet for a bit as the two alicorns navigated through the forest. Orchid hadn't been very deep in the forest before, she only ever went to the outskirts of it to collect the daisy flowers for her mother, Celestia. But Schyler seemed to know exactly where they were going. The two stopped in front of a largish stream. "We'll be to the outskirts soon, but we should get some water." Schyler said. Orchid nodded, as she lowered her head and drank a small bit. She noticed that Schyler hadn't drank anything, she held out her wing over Orchid as she scanned their surroundings. Orchid finished, but she didn't continue walking. She looked at Schyler, and as she did, a strange feeling swept over her. A feeling as if she had found something dear to her, like one of her childhood stuffed animals, or toys. She wanted to speak, but couldn't think of what to say. Schyler noticed this and stared right back at the mare. As she did, she felt a feeling of comfort and safety. As she started in to Orchid's pink salmon colored eyes, she saw a familiar shine in them. A shine she hasn't seen in millenniums. Schyler broke away from the stare to look in to the distance. She ever so slightly see that the seemingly never ending trees ended. And there was a noticeable, small yellow flower at the end of the forest. A daisy. "Come, lets get you back home." Schyler said. But Orchid didn't move. "Where will you go?" She asked, with an ever so slight of sadness and concern. "Well, I have to go. After from what you've told me, Equestria is bigger now, and there are so many things I'd like to see from the land I once ruled." Schyler responded with a soft smile. Orchid's eyes lowered, along with her ears. "You're leaving?" Orchied asked. Schyler noticed a familiar shine in the mare's eyes. Sadness and disappointment. "Well, yes. I can't stay her, and plus, I'm gonna have to find a way back to my time." Schyler responded. The shine of sadness in Orchid's eyes greatened. "You're, you're going to leave modern Equestria?" Orchid asked. "Orchid, I love what Equestria has become, I am so happy and glad that it is where it is now, it's beautiful and lively here. But this," Schyler waved her hoof around. "this, isn't my time. And it's not where I belong." A look of disappointment and sadness seemed to oversweep Orchid. The plum mare cleared her throat before she spoke once more. "I, I just thought that you'd remain here, in the forest, with," She paused for a moment before speaking again. "with, me." Schyler's eyes widened a bit. Orchid only had known Schyler for a day, and yet, she wanted her to stay with her? Schyler would never admit it, but deep down, she did want to stay. She wanted to explore all of modern Equestria, and she wanted Orchid to be with her. Schyler was surprised to see Orchid walk up to her, and rest her head upon Schyler's right shoulder. Schyler felt a burning sensation in her eyes. Something wet escaped the mare's right eye. A tear. She felt more coming, but held them back. "I'm gonna miss you." Orchid said softly. Schyler swallowed down her tears. "I'm, I'm gonna miss you too." She said with a soft smile, with an ever so slight sniffle.

Orchid stared back up to the mare. She felt a mysterious feeling overcome her. A feeling she couldn't understand. It felt like someone was pulling at her heartstrings. She didn't want Schyler to go. She wanted her to stay with her, she wanted to make more memories with this gentle and delicate mare. Finally she understood what this feeling was. Love. It was strong and inviolable love for this white smoke colored mare. Schyler could feel exactly what Orchid was feeling. A feeling she hadn't felt since she was a young mare. The two didn't speak for some time. Schyler's wing was long since swept down. The two were soaked from the rain. The sun began to set, and the moon started to rise. Schyler swallowed down her upcoming tears. "I'll-" She swallowed once more. She took a deep breath. "I'll stay here, with you." She said finally. She could feel her cheeks burn. Orchid's eyes sparkled from hearing this, and a smile of pure happiness overcame her face. She rested her head on Schyler's. It felt like everything had stopped. As if everything that had surrounded them had seized to exist. And all that was there, was them. It felt like, for the very first time, everything made sense. everything was perfect, and life seemed sweeter then a honeybee's honey. The two mare's smiled from the overwhelming joy they felt. "I will see you tomorrow then." Schyler said with a smile. Orchid smiled back. "I look forward to it." She responded. "Maybe soon, you can come into Canterlot. There's so much to see, and that would be the perfect place to stop by first for your journey around Equestria." She said with happiness and merriment. Schyler smiled even more, and her cheeks burned once more. "That would be lovely." She said.

Schyler escorted Orchid out of the forest, and as Orchid began to walk away from the forest, she turned around, and looked up at Schyler. She softly smiled at the mare. She wanted to tell the mare something, she wanted to tell her she loved her. But something deep down had told her that Schyler knew. "Try to find a place to sleep for tonight. and be careful." Orchid said. "I'll try." Schyler said with a smile and soft laugh. She waved at Orchid as she walked away. She watched the plum mare gallop down the hill, and burst in to flight. "I wonder where this new journey will take us." Schyler said to herself. She smiled. "I can't wait."
