I've never heard or seen the shuttle's lab as a separate model. But shape wise, it's all cylinders and cones. You might be able to make it.

Toys can be a good reference. When I built the Train, I had a hard time finding good pics of real trains of the era, so I ended up relying alot on pictures of Lionel trains.
