I've never done a critique and much of an analyst nor an artist so please bear with me, especially if I jump around to different topics. I have always admired your work, especially your Zutara pieces (may Zutara reign forever!) and I do love what you've done with this one. In my eyes, the way you've drawn this piece seems a little different than how you've done most of the pieces of yours that I've seen. I don't know what it is exactly, but something in the way you've drawn the faces looks different. I couldn't really imagine you drawing a slightly different way so it kind of surprised me, in a good way. It's hard to explain what I see different but I think the difference is that the faces of Zuko and Katara look to be a little more adult-like and they've lost their child-like features that I've come to associate with your work. I hope that doesn't sound like a bad thing because I do not see it as such. I really enjoy the slight differences you've managed in their faces, expressions, etc. I don't know if that was your intent but I think it's beautiful and makes the look of Older!Zutara look more, for lack of a better term, real.
I'm assuming this piece is for Zutara Week 2014 prompt 'Cobalt Blue'. I think it is a brilliant piece for Zutara Week (whether or not that is what it was intended for) and as a stand-alone piece. The designs of their outfits look intricate and beautiful. My constructive criticism would be that I think if the patterns in the shade showed up a bit more than what I can see, mind you, i could just be my computer's brightness that isn't allowing me to see the designs as much. None-the-less, I like the background you chose for this piece. I love how it's simple yet intricate at the same time. If the background was brighter, busier, etc. I believe that it would've taken away from Zuko, Katara, the love and admiration on their faces and the blue fire. I'm pretty sure your viewers would've been able to figure out why you titled your piece 'Blue' even if the background was busier but it wouldn't have made as much, in my mind, of an impact as it does.

Not sure what you were going for, but it is quite lovely. There's something about Zuko bending blue fire that makes me all sorts of happy. I *really* love the textures and the colors - they'reΒ not only warm, but very rich.

They look older, 40~50 ish, and still in love: sweet!
Somewhere in the story line it was said that you can only bend blue fire if you were not conflicted w/ yourself so that could mean he finally reached inner peace while with her.
