Gently, gently, they picked up the bodies, the crystal wreckage around them their only witness. Discord had left them where they died, craddling each other, and that's how their pony siblings laid them to rest. All three tribes, including even the elusive bat ponies, gathered around them, weeping wordlessly. A profound grief hung over the crowd, with only a sliver of hope struggling ot break the dreary surface of their sorrow; the Elements of Harmony, recovered from the ruins Discord left in his wake, seemed to shine a little more dimly after the brave pair had breathed their final breath.

They were taken to the entrance of the Forest, by a peaceful clearing untouched by the Draconequus' wicked tricks. This irrelevant spot, often bypassed by travellers now became something precious to them, as they carefully let Celestia and Luna down on a plush bed of leaves. Unicorns, earth ponies, pegasi- they had all been part of the plan, and just as they'd promised, the two young mares succeeded in retrieving the Elements...And the cost, although not a surprise, came as a heavy blow all the same, worse than any of them could've predicted. Celestia and Luna were, for the most part, unimportant- they had friends, yes, but they were not commanders, chancellors or princesses. And yet they had laid down their lives and given ponykind hope, changing the course of history forevermore. And for their loss, ponies mourned. They came together, truly now, to lean on each other and let a wave of grief wash over them all; for lost friends and missing family, for forgotten lands, for broken homes. And for the two young ponies who had died for a chance to bring it all back.

These ponies mourned so deeply that the very Sky was moved by their grief... Or so the old history books would have us believe.
