Yeah yeah I fell into this series, bluh bluh. lol I'm sorry but this is probably the closest to my old style everyone's told me to go back to i'm ever going to get, and it's not cutesy little girls like I drew for most of the past two years
so yeah. have some Mituna! I love his design... I love his character. I have a thing for self-sacrifice that doesn't kill, yet robs a character of their identity or mind instead (see also: Lute). [link] there's a lighter version of this painting here. I like both versions but I like the darker face and glow of the helmet better in the dark one, so i'm sticking the dark one on DA.
this was a test for doing a rougher painting in sai... never could get the colors adjusted how I like them once I was on a normal monitor.

I like your new style, for whatever that's worth. I don't think regression for any reason should ever be asked of an artist. It implies that the practice you've put in and the changes in your heart and life that guide your art are somehow worth less than the person you were before. I really like your old and your new stuff (as evidenced by how long I've been stalking your sorry keister on dA).

He's very detailed, and I love the glow. I also adore the self sacrificing characters, and Mituna's story makes me cry so hard becuase he didn't die with dignity, he lived and became an insane, brain damaged man with not a single drop of dignity, and Latula would leave him right now for Kankri actually if Mituna wasn't so messed up. That's why I hate Latuala, she doesn't love him, she pities him and flushes for someone else =-=

Well htis hit me square in hte feels. It is not very often I get hte chance to see such high quality work! But really now, htis dose hit home hte fact htat even in life he had time to miss his powers and stability. Hte sound mind was more valued where he came from too and he had nohting remotely close to htat anymore... nice job!

Ever notice Kankri htough? I had a bit of a meltdown when hte epiphany reared it's ugly head: Kankri lives in hte shadow of hte Sufferer. Htough he claims to disagree wiht hte mehtods, it is likely he also realizes hte Sufferer had many close friends where he does not...

I've been nerding out hardcore over all of the wraparounds, parallels, come arounds and layerings of these characters. The flip from the alpha trolls to the rebooted society on Alternia has so many delicious layers and flavors that I just dgjlgagnbnbjlglj. Kankri's a really good one, how even though (as almost an entirely satire/joke character) he isn't meant to be taken very seriously in his beforus stage, his reset life is actually very profound due to the circumstances he was then born into. it's good stufffff. Kankri's also just hilarious too XD I quite like the character. Such a pointed parody wrapped up in a really adorable design.

Goodness, I didn't even like Mituna very much to begin with, but with your art of him and then the cuteness you put on my tumblr's dash, I can't help but love him now.

It was the layering of his reveal that got me. Go in expecting typical coolbutbipolar captor, absolute maniac with almost unreadable dialog (his dialog's actually really interesting once you unscramble it tho, there's some really subtle self-awareness in it), hints of an accident and that something wasn't right, Latula treating him seriously, and then the full exposition of the fact he practically blew his brain out in an act of self sacrifice to save his friends... and I was just like. "OH GOD D: D: D:" and... love XD; but I love me some good tragedy, plus he's one of my favorite designs of the entire series. (and I love how he's a loose parody of 4chan)

I really really hope we get more of him down the line, or at least more information on what happened (though as it seems to be interconnected with the Makaras and in turn to Caliborn I have a feeling we will).... been hungry for it since his first appearance, haha.
