My Experiences With Anime

I know some of you guys really love anime. I myself only have one particular favorite, and it involves guys with supernatural powers beating the crap out of each other repeatedly.

What, you've never heard of s-CRY-ed?

That's right, I watched that show. Personally, when people ask me who my favorite character is, I'm going to have to say Straight Cougar. Kazuma's too popular as it is, and I don't want to add to those ranks, and Ryuho has a bad attitude that all girls seem to love, which pisses me off, because while I had to work to get into any sort of relationship, Ryuho's got people fangasming over him night and day, and he hasn't done jack shit. And I don't remember what happened to Kazuma's buddy.

My experiences with Anime, ever since s-CRY-ed, have gone downhill.

As soon as they came out with Naruto, I couldn't go on to YouTube without some pirated episode or video montage of the latest chapter being RIGHT IN MY FACE, OMG, I HAVE TO WATCH THIS RIGHT THE FUCK NOW, MY LIFE DEPENDS ON IT!!!

And then there was Inuyasha. A show about a guy with long, white hair in red robes with a particularly large sword and a snobby attitude? It sounds like somebody took Jason Haley's character, Xendane, gave him dog ears, made him Japanese, and had him voiced by the same guy who voiced Kazuma in s-CRY-ed. And then there's a girl from common day Japan who gets lost in a ripple through time and space because she has terrible hand eye coordination and tripped over her own feet and fell into an ANCIENT WELL!!!!!!!! And somehow ended up back in the Feudal Age of Japan. You know, when swords were the body and soul of a warrior. To me, it sounds like they took Xendane, spruced him up, sent him back in time, and then sent an incredibly ditzy and bratty girl back in time just to wreck hell on his very being. THAT IS NOT THE PROPER WAY TO TREAT A BADASS, DAMMIT!!!

Then there's the whole thing with Sacred jewels, a perverted priest, some demon slayer chick, an annoying fox brat, some dead priestess...

...Ghost in the Shell.

I feel if you could make a more awesome Anime than Full Metal Alchemist, this would be it. It meets all the requirements for one of my stories: Advanced technology, law enforcement, almost robot-like humans, guns, big booms, Splinter Cell-esque tactics, the whole shebang. My only complaint are those damn robots with the high pitched girl voices. Those pissed me off.

...Full Metal Alchemist, commonly referred to as FMA.

Let's see, we've got two kids who decided to get stupid and fuck around with ancient magics, one kid now with two prosthetic limbs, the other's soul trapped in a suit of armor. We've got a very... VERY... strange... group of law enforcement who enjoy making very odd jokes, doing weird flexing of their muscles, fangasming over dogs, talking about the new, very much deviously rude and explicit, uniform requirements for female officers, and... oh, yeah! Using Alchemy. We've got Homunculi, which is VERY hard to spell, who enjoy fucking around with the main characters and general getting in the way. We've got corrupt political leaders, corrupt clergymen, corrupt children, corrupt competition holders, corrupt cities, and a girl with a big wrench who bitch slaps whoever happens to piss her off, or whoever happens to just be there. We've also got... ROY MUSTANG.

Welcome to the best Anime ever conceived. (Except for Roy, he creeps me out.) I actually enjoyed watching this one.

...Back to Naruto. Oh God, shoot me now.

Now, I don't mind reading the comics and catching some episodes here and there, even if they're re-runs, and I enjoy looking at some of the artwork for it. What I don't enjoy is the war that commences every time somebody who doesn't like Naruto and openly admits it enters the scene. For Christ's sakes, people! We non-Naruto lovers have voices too, and we have just as much a right to use them as the next guy! Stop arming your ninja clans with RPGs and AK-47s every time we open our mouths to say something!

Of course, it isn't ALL non-Naruto lovers who get flamed to smithereens. The ones who really take the blow are people who are complete jerks about it. Here's an example of what I would say if I honestly, truly, without a doubt, did not like Naruto:

"I respect that other people enjoy this series, and I am not about to try and change that, but I wish to say that I am not one of those people who particularly enjoys this show, and therefore, I am going to cease and desist "being in the loop" about it. Thank you."

Here's an example of what a complete dumb ass with a heart made of ashes would say:

"This show sucks balls, you all suck balls, I hope you all go die!"

Which would you prefer to hear?

That said, I kinda' do like Naruto. Not enough to keep up with it, but I read the funny fan fictions, I look at the art, I even sometimes read the comic or catch snippets of the show here and there every now and again. I'm not going to say I hate it, but I won't say I enjoy it to the point where I'm an utter fanboy. And I'm certainly not going to dis it in front of all its fan. Masashi has earned his respect, and for me to blatantly insult him because of it would be my call to the Devil to just steal my soul while I'm still alive.

...Here's one: Dragon Ball Z.

I've been watching the old episodes. They're still kinda' cool, given how long ago this series was made. And it still has its fans. A good classic is never a bad thing, unless it was a particularly bad anime like... oh, shit, I don't know...

So, as you can see, while I have good thoughts about some animes, others leave me with a bad feeling in my gut. I only wrote this to clear up some issues people have presented to me via email concerning what animes I like and don't like. Here's your answer, guys.
