So one question if I can barrow the time. One do you know if you kill me now then you'll only do me a favor for one day we'll all be dead soon. Two am I going to walk away from this alive if so why my life as a human is horrible and all I can think about is different ways to end it myself so if your going to kill me come on then.

I have thought about uploading the series there, but I want to be able to upload the entire thing on one image.Β
I've seen a few flash application that turn a series of images into a comic book of sorts. I really want to try one of those.

Yeah they were both very well made. The sandworm's gut might be a fun scenario to look into xP
I liked how wet and slimy it was ^^

Im sure he'll figure out some way out. I don't know how, considering I don't think its possible to simply climb back out the sandworm's mouth.
But until he can figure out some way to escape, he'll just have to find a large cavity where he can stretch his wings and think.

Highly unlikely yeah - the esophagus muscles are probably very slick and slimy, and if it felt something would just force it back down. Very very powerful muscles!
The SubDragon is probably very long lived, and quite intelligent. He/She will probably find a way eventually, even if it takes years. Whether or not it'll help the other occupants of the sandworm's gut is another story.
Hmm I thought this was part of its belly though, and pretty much as spacious as it got? Unless it gets a bit wider deeper inside. Like in the primary stomach and this is just part of the long gullet. Or a crop of sorts.
If the dragon has any magical abilities, maybe it could freeze part of the sandworm's flesh, cause it enough discomfort to regurgitate its stomach contents?Β If not, then I 'unno. Will think of something eventually.

Post-note:Β Will just say "In the main stomach, there is no escape for humans and the like."Β Larger and more powerful 'prey'Β - like dragons and large dinosaurs - might be able to squirm through and back into the relatively safer stomach before digestion starts wearing them out.

My idea of a sandworm's internal anatomy seems to be a bit different than yours
Assuming it is a worm-like body from mouth to tail, then it probably wouldn't have room for a labyrinthine digestive tract - except for perhaps its intestines of course. It'd be more tube like from its gullet to stomach(s). Unless the sandworm was like, many hundreds of feet long and coiled and twisted about beneath the desert surface... That could make it seem maze-like. Very easy to get turned around and lost in such a way. The throat could connect to an elongated intestine-like stomach chamber that is coiled up along the length of its body, maybe with multiple chambers like you suggested. Prey is gradually pushed through this by its peristaltic muscle contractions, digesting off mineral nutrients and moistening up organic material for proper digestion in the main stomach which is more straight and elongated. Once prey reaches that stomach, it's pretty much over for them - they wouldn't be able to get back into the secondary stomach since the entrance is sealed tightly to keep the acids in the main stomach from spilling into the less-protected secondary one.
So sandworms may be built to handle and process any possible swallowed object, extracting any possible nutrients it may be able to offer. Inorganic material supports its skin and stuff, organic material like humans and native desert fauna provide its internal systems with nourishment. Living in the desert and being quite massive, it'd need all the help it can get.
So summing up:
*Large gaping maw with teeth to guide prey down into the throat and to prevent it from wiggling its way back out
*Long, long esophagus. Very slick and slimy as a further prevention from prey escaping
*A long twisted secondary stomach that folds in on itself and wraps around the inside of the worm, like the small intestines do. Used for digesting inorganic material.
*The more deadly primary stomach. Elongated like a snake's stomach and somewhat more spacious. The stronger acids are in here, and once prey arrives in this chamber there is no escape.
*Small and large intestines follow this stomach, as is standard with most predators.

I figured they'd have at least two stomachs: a main one with incredibly harmful acids, and a smaller one that acts more like a holding area with a slow digestion rate. Neither would be massive in size or space, but large enough for our dragon friend to at least stretch his wings out.
Im guessing then, according to your thoughts, the liquid the humanΒ was sitting in was lubricating slime used to help get everything it swallows down to the stomachs.
I was suggesting that there was a small crop between the esophagus and the smaller stomach. It may not even look like a crop, just a larger area that prey passes by.

RaeThalis In reply to PWRof3D [2014-03-24 05:17:01 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, this could be its crop right here - just a few meters past the end of the esophagus and the dragon had just slipped inside and stood up to examine his surroundings.
Possibly yes.Β I could see it being at least like this:
Mouth -> Esophagus -> Crop -> 1st Stomach -> Possibly a second crop -> Second somewhat larger stomach with more efficient acids -> Intestines
I think the crop would be long, stomach-like, and filled with mucus and lubricating slime to help ease bulky items further into the gut. Weak but constant peristaltic motions gradually moving things towards the stomach for digestion.
*nods*Β Yeah that works o3oΒ Crop for storing things, getting them all coated with slime and stuff, or for when its belly is full, or I don't know!Β But yeah - crop then stomach then second stomach. Maybe the first stomach is all coiled up like the intestines, or...
Who knows. We don't have to get it all worked out right away - since all the bellies would likely look very similar anyway on the inside xP
Could be different breeds of sandworm too. Yours and mine, but with very similar traits!
So I think it's safe to say these two haven't yet been transported into the gut. There's probably some very weak acids in the crop as well, seeing as some of the guy's clothes have dissolved a bit. Not strong enough to break down complex organic material, but enough to still be tingly and dissolve clothing if subjected to constant exposure to the juices. Maybe once the crop is filled the worm begins to work it all into the stomach to be digested properly.
