Sven, I agree that the moonlight is a bit bright, deliberately painting as I remembered it from 59 years ago as an impressionable child. That night seemed extraodinarily bright, although in reality, it was most likely just another "normal" event. It may have been an error in judgement to artistically portray a memory in a realism painting. One nice thing about digital is that the image can be changed at will. I will re-visit the file and make the appropriate adjustments. Thanks, Russ

Tana, I don't know if I responded to this message....sooo...here it is again. All of my paintings are done in Photoshop. I work with NYC galleries doing catalogs, brochures and art reproductions. It was during the course of correcting their images that I realized that it would be possible to paint an entire landscape, been doing them for ten years. I may use a reference photos for difficult structures but most else is as my mind sees them. Your works are awesome...you are very talented. Thanks for your wonderful comment about my art. Russ

Hello again Russ and thank you very much for your reply. That you are able to draw certain things as your eye sees them is a great talent and one that isn't easily achieved, however you must have a lot of practice, as well as a sharp eye if you have been doing these paintings for ten years. It must be very rewarding and somewhat an honor to be collaborating with NYC galleries. I wish you continuous success in that venture! Thank you also for the compliment on my pieces. I hope to branch out into other mediums as time goes by, and further hone my skills. You are most welcome! Your digital paintings are every bit as beautiful as traditional paintings!

Ella, thanks for viewing my gallery and for selecting my work as a favorite. I looked through your gallery, you are a prolific artist. You have an amazing range of works...from expressive realism to abstract to photography. It takes me so long to paint one of my works that my postings of new works will be over a month apart. I do have about 25 completed digital paintings and about 40 traditional paintings. I'll be posting them a little at a time. I am still having some difficulty figuring this site out, seems complex, but I am getting better at it. Thanks again, Russ

Zn, Thanks for the nice response, much appreciated. Like you, I am also new to this forum, still trying to figure out the navigation. I did look through your gallery, saw some wonderful digital landscapes. I just bought a Wacom but have been painting with the mouse for so long that it is difficult to change. Russ

Laeda, thanks again for your pleasant response. I enjoy realism, taking over 100 hours for each painting. They require endless patience and an intimate knowledge of Photoshop. Each element is rendered separately, dividing the element up into a series of geometrical shapes, building that shape, assembling the object as I go. Trees and other foliages are done freehand, skies require over 50 toned layers that are blended with airbrush and opacity to get the realism...most difficult, same as the water. Once all of the elements are in place I then combine all the layers and begin to add the details and shadings to give it the realistic appearance. Hope that helps a little to answer your question. Russ
