Description
This is the first (LotR-related) part of an art trade I'm having with fyre-monkey. I was told to draw "a pretty Legolas with a chibi Gimli", but I deviated a bit from that description...after I had drawn Legolas, I noticed that there was not only a lot of empty space on the sketchbook page, he seemed to be looking up at someone--and knowing that I still needed to draw Gimli, I came up with the -great- idea that I should draw a normally-sized Gimli behind Legolas.Gimli turned out to be a bitch to draw, and he turned out looking pretty crappy--his head's too big, the pose is wrong, his body disproportionate. Since I was working with Crayola colored pencils, Legolas's tunic/leggings/etc look way more neon than they should, and I totally screwed his hair up when I inked it. His expression, too.
But still: I like how this turned it out. I think Photoshop saved it. The picture in the background was taken by my parents while hiking, and modified a bunch by me (I was inspired by a short documentary on the digital grading done for LotR).
Um...yesh.

wow! you're beating yourself up over VERY small problems! this is really cool (kicks the crap out of anything i could ever do). i like the way it shows off their friendship, the strongest ever between an Elf and a Dwarf. so sweet!

(A ripping sound is heard as the camera panns out. A muffled cry sounds and is quickly silenced)

Awww, this is nice!! I love how you portrayed their friendship. Lovely. I also like how you toned the bg with the characters. They look like they're floating, but the picture is so beautiful and goes nicely with the colors in Gimli and Legolas. Wonderful! I can't wait to see more!!

I think you did a good job, Legolas looks very good. The colored pencils didn't do that much damage to it, and if you think they did you can always tone it down in Photoshop. (Switching it from RGB to CYMK always seems to mellow some colors out!)
Gimli looks good, also, but he's kinda... skinny. Dwarves are supposed to be short and quite burly. He looks kinda more humanish here. Dwarves are usually short and almost as wide as they are tall, especially in the shoulders. But other than that, I really like this picture.

I think you're picking on yourself to much. Gimli looks fine, and so does Legolas. (With that much detail in his hair? This is great and beyond.)
