Yeah, I try to take design cues from as many real world historical references as I can. But then, also to try and come up with new ones... that's much harder though, if I want to keep things plausible (which is one of my goals).

It's good to study artists you adore... but never forget to go to the source, as well! Whether that be the pioneer artists at the beginning, or the real world imagery the work is based on; whatever it all leads back to. I think too, at least for me personally, I take a good deal of time to understand the inner workings of the kinds of things I draw. I'll freely admit my anatomy isn't top notch, and I couldn't remember half the anatomical terms I learned in life drawing classes to save my life. But knowing what's going on insideβ€”that makes the outside workβ€”adds infinitely to the plausibility of your work. And I'm a huge sucker for believable, plausible designs.

Of course not all art is like that, but it's what I know and do at least :]

Nice! I can almost see the resemblance to real life vehicles in a lot of those sketches! In my eyes, I can see KVs, an M3 combined with a Sdkfz 251, an AMX-13 (walker edition), and a T-72 combined with a Sheridan.

The walkers on the bottom remind me of Tau vehicles (from 40k) for some reason.
