Have I ever mentioned I love Aubrey Beardsley and how some of pieces channel him? If not Iยดm doing it now. How is it that all the best Snape fanartists on DA are influenced somehow by some of my favorite artists? I must have chosen my fandom wisely

It was actually a fellow Snape fan who has now become a dear friend of mine who introduced me to Beardsley, and I do tend to channel him somewhat in my art, although I am trying my hand now at some other styles of Victorian b&w illustrations, like Harry Clarke, Tenniel, etc. I think that perhaps there's something about these styles that lends itself to drawing Snape particularly: the stark contrasts of black and white, offset by some curvilinear stylistic details. I did, however, like the Art Nouveau/Deco style immensely even before then. Even my coffee table books are on Art Deco/Nouveau. I would love to be able to paint in lush colours in the manner of the Pre-Raphaelites, but I'm afraid I haven't the skills or talent for that! Dabbling a bit in watercolour in some of my WIPs, and finding that difficult enough!

Thanks very much! I wanted a recurring motif that echoed Lily's hair, and the symbolism of thistles also worked by a lucky happenstance.

It looks so great in fan art with the contrast of her fiery, sunny warmth, and his watery, lunar palor. Visually, the symbolism is just gorgeous.

Oh, I'm so pleased you like it. I have another Snily themed one in the works, but Lily is only implied, not featured.

I shall have to draw more of this pairing though. I don't read it very much, but I adore Snily fanart.
