Ok my friends,i submitted the original shot to a group,and had it declined (with a useful critique when requested) so i have posted an edit based on that critique.....opinions please

You should not of had it declined, the original looks amazing, and it is nice to see the whole body of the animal. It is a great shot ....

But is their crop suggestion necessarily correct, wouldn't it be fun to see which picture would get the highest amount of votes in a poll?

Thats where the subjective bit comes in i suppose,there are "rules" about composition etc...buts its easy to get too tied up in them
Maybe i will give that a go,though probably not get many expressing an opinion

But for the record ,that while they are exacting in their voting,they are also very good at providing feedback.
I often have 2 or even all three Admins who voted replying to a request.

First off, YOU got declined!!! Did the world just stop spinning???!!! Personally, I see nothing wrong with the orginal photo; however, I have learned from listening to State Fair judges drone about photography that the cropped version is better. I STILL believe it's all totally up to the judges....State Fair or Clubs on DA.....
