Yeah, you see all these guys in their tuners bragging about the adrenaline and thrill... makes you want to put them behind the wheel of something like that and send them screaming down a twisty road at 90 MPH... that will show them adrenaline. Thing is, in the old days everyone had cars that handle that way.
Take these tuners, remove the shock absorbers, take off two brakes, remove the computer traction control, throw doughnut spare tires on all four corners... THEN they'll know how much fun they're missing out on.

Iwas having an argument like that the other day, my friend claimed that cars today make people better drivers, but I say that these traction controlled, all wheel drive, self stabilizing cars take the driver out of the equasion, I think driving old beaters that don't handle, don't run well, and are a little challenging to controll make for better drivers, if not more alert ones!
I'm 25, The newest thing I drove untill I turned 12 was my 52 Dodge truck, with no brakes and a flathead 6 with a 4 speed (still drive it, but now with brakes....at least 3 of them!) then when I was 12 I bought a 1983 Ford Escort wagon with the nose off of an 82 Ford EXP on it (I did that!), it was flat black, no 2 wheels or tires were even close to the same, it loved to stall and randomly loose all ability to go faster then 40 KPH, and it was nowhere near leagal....I drove that car for years, no papers, no licence, no cares in the world! I drove random cars and trucks of my dads for years, and I got a 1982 F150 about 9 1/2 years ago, it was decent, some rust, but it worked....after nearly a decade I have beaten that truck to submission, I have just shy of 1 000 000 KM on it, I ve gone through 2 engines, 3 trannys, and 2 diffs, I managed to break and repair nearly everything on it over the years, so I learned a lot from it...on the side of the highway....in the dark....fixing things without proper tools, or visability...
Now days I can drive anything anywhere no problem, it's nothing to get a car running after sitting in a field for a decade or two and start driving it right away without worries... I know people who can't even manage to get their head around a dead battery, let alone actually fix somethign major!
I think there should be a law that when a kid gets their first car, it must not be complete or running, they must learn how to put it together thenmselves, and fix everything that needs it to get it running, and keep it opperational for at least 5 years or a certain amount of milage, then they will earn the right to a shiney new car, and they will appreciate it a hell of a lot more then just being handed a BMW or something new.
I was happy to have beaters, and I upgraded to vintage cars when I was older, I drive a 1931 Pontiac sedan in the summer, and throughout the year I have a choice of my 79 Lincoln Continental, 72 Dodge Coronet Police car, 46 Ford Bus, my work truck 82 Ford beater, or the shiney "new" car...a 1991 Chrysler New Yorker!
I was happily driving that 91 New Yorker when I gave a friend in the city a ride, he could'nt get over how old the car was....I was confused, this is a new car to me I told him, he said he never had been in a car that was older then 2 years ever...and no, he cannot fix or service anything in his car because he ha neve had a car that needed to be worked on to go cruising, and even he agrees that he missed out because of that!
I'm kind of off on a tangent....

My FIRST car was the 1969 Camaro, which I promptly wrecked... then wrecked again... then wrecked again. (Last one didn't cause any damage to the Camaro, I backed over a Honda)
In highschool I got my first "Bought it myself" car, which was a 1981 Dodge Omni with a 1.7 ltr 4 popper and a four speed. It was built from three cars, had no shocks for the most part, they were there physically but performed no function at all. Only two bolts held the passenger seat in place and if you took a corner too hard the door would fly open and the seat would swing out... I called it the Ejector Seat. No heater or anything. I loved that car, though. Ended up getting a 89 Omni later that was more mechanically sound (I have a pic here on my gallery)[link]
I also owned a 85 Pontiac Grand Am, 93 Cavalier, 95 Grand Prix, old Chevy Citation, and a 68 Chevy truck (Still have it)
Those Omnis actually cornered quite well, I was racing a friend in HIS beater 73 Celica and he cut thruogh a neighbor's yard to beat me to the house, but I took that corner at 35 MPH in that Omni and still beat him.
I agree about the whole way teens should get cars. Perhaps it would add to the responsibility they have as they drive. If THEY have to fix it, maybe then THEY won't drive like complete maniacs. It would bring accountability to them. There was a court case where a couple street racers in $100,000 tuners creamed a lady in a station wagon in the mountains, killing her and all but one of her kids and THEY were sueing HER family to replace their cars. "Casualties of war, homie." Perhaps the kids would think "If I wreck it I have to FIX it."
Also, you know how many countries have a law where to get citizen rights you have to enlist in the military? I think at least in the US in order to get full citizen rights you have to have worked in food service.

The Munster Mobile was made from a bunch of model T touring bodies! So it's the same basic thing!

Have you ever seen the car that was being built for the Adams Family show back inthe 60's? It's called "The Druid Princess" and it was a gorgeous over the top kind of rod from the 60's!
It never got used because the series was cancelled before the car was ready.

I don't have a link, but I'm sure you could look it up better then I can! "Druid Princess"
As for the builder I am drawing a blank right now, a lot of people had their hands in it over the years.
