Despite the rapidly warming weather, Spring did not bring the expected sense of joy the wolves of Riverfell had been anticipating after their particularly harsh winter. The threat of the pale wolves had not been idle or easily forgotten. Traces of them continued to appear dangerously close, encounters were becoming inevitable, and the herds were not only late, but leaner in numbers when they finally arrived. Shiloh’s mind was constantly racing with thoughts and concerns each time she sent out a patrol. Would they return unscathed?

For a moment, she had considered calling off their summer Quarter Feast in favor of preserving their strength, energy, and stocks as they continued to navigate the dangers that lurked beyond the territory. In her heart, she felt there had been little to celebrate recently, but her mind knew that was not true. Her pack and family thrived despite the harshness of winter and the looming invaders. They would continue to weather any adversity united together, which was reason enough to spend a day relaxing and reconnecting with each other.

As she sat quietly in front of her packmates near the shore of the Lake of Stars, she was reminded of how important it was for them all to come together. Looking at each of their faces as they eagerly awaited the day’s festivities, she decided to keep her announcements short.

"I know you’re all ready to rest and relax today, so I won’t hold you up for long. I just wanted to thank everyone for your hard work and diligence this last season. I know it hasn’t been easy and we’ve had to be on guard for far too long. Ideally, we’ll continue to uncover more information regarding the strangers that seem hellbent on lingering around Riverfell. In the meantime, remain vigilant and continue traveling in pairs whenever possible."

She could see the exhaustion in their eyes as she spoke. It wasn’t the first time she would say that same thing and unfortunately, she knew it would not be the last. Cheering up a bit, she grinned and continued.

"In brighter news and as most of you know, these last few weeks have not been without good news. Our long-lost Master Sage has returned to us!" Turning her attention to Heather as she stepped up and sat beside her, she could feel tears swelling in her eyes once more at being reunited with the aunt she’d only ever dreamed of meeting. "If nothing else, I can think of no better reason to hold a celebration."

Her ear tilted as the sound of another approached her side. Jed’s scent hit her nose and reminded her that he, too, deserved both an introduction and recognition despite the pack’s less than thrilled acceptance of his return. "And of course, her being here would not have been possible without Jedrek’s aid. We owe him our thanks and…our forgiveness."

The wispy-furred male sat gracefully nearby, opposite of Heather, and looked out at his gathered packmates. There were so many faces he did not recognize, as well as several he did, though he avoided the worst of their frigid stares. Lifting a brow as his lip curled into a devilish grin, he graciously tipped his head at Shiloh, but remained silent. Her expression was forcibly neutral, as she was aware of his prior allegiances and the fact that he had once fought alongside Rhaeger. The older male had explained himself profusely and sworn off any ties to the previous alpha, though he knew Shiloh would require more convincing; as well as time.

"We have much to celebrate even though our world has grown more dangerous. Let’s not forget to be grateful for one another, no matter our pasts. We can only look forward, Riverfell – so let’s get to it and start the festivities!"

I'm heckin' late af with this, but June was a shockingly busy month for me and riddled with ups and downs. Special thanks to PaperElk for her patience and for collabing on this with me! Our styles blended together very nicely I think I did the sketch and BG, Paper did the lines, colors, and shading!

With this, Heather and Jed are officially home now! I'll have the Summer Hive events for the pack posted here in a minute, too, for those waiting (this piece and their official arrival had to happen first so stuff makes sense hnngg hence delays). Got some fun stuff included in there though that involve our newest additions to Riverfell! >:3c
