Description And my personal favourite of my watercolours (and gel pen for the stars)! How surprising. It was inspired by an internet hoax, showing a photo like this of the Milky Way lining up with a path through the dunes. The caption said something like: once every two years, the stars line up with this path. It's called Heaven's Trail and it's in Ireland. Utter bullshit. It's on the island of Sylt in Germany, and it will line up a lot more often than that. The awesome photo looks quite different from this: it has a man standing on top of the dune with a light, and well, I didn't bother to make an exact copy of the dune either. The original photographer is Thomas Zimmer, and you can read his story about it here: www.snopes.com/fact-check/faux…

And yes, I'm crazy enough to get some accurate constellations in there, but only roughly. Their scaling and position is off, and all the smaller stars are random. I don't think I need to explain which constellation is up there Also, throwing in some salt gives some really nice galaxy-ish textures.

The PhD thesis of a colleague had art between her chapters and I was like 'yoooooo I want that too!'. Don't ask why on earth I went for watercolour paintings instead of old trusty photoshop. I suppose I wanted a challenge. And watercolourpaintings like this don't take a lot of time to make: roughly an evening, though it depends on how long you need to wait for the paint to dry. My research is about sand transport on beaches, so yeah, expect lots of coastal art.

I currently have four paintings like this, but I need to make a fifth. This one is the second/third I made. I worked on two paintings simultaneously.

Original size: A5.

I love your source of inspiration! The blending at the top and bottom of the painting look astonishing, I love the stars too! <3
