Description Ok lady's n' gents...the next part of my Ashelin cosplay is FINALY finished. DUM DUM DUUUUUMMM. The jaket.

I decided to go with a mix between Ashelins final "gameplay" design and some of Bob Raefi's original design work for the character. (pictured) I liked the original design a lot because it had so many more buckles, belts, attachments and other fiddly bits.

As usual, here's the product list.

2 Patterns converted into an entirely new pattern.

The jaket is made of blue apparell weight vinyl (body), mustard yellow metalic upholstery weight vinyl (collar), and brown leather pattern embossed upholstery weight vinyl. About 2 yards total.

1 yd blue cotton (Lining...oh yes...it's lined)

3 industrial snaps.

1 Military style buckle.

3 studs.

1 red tube top. (The little red shirt.)

Lots and lots of time (About 40 hours of work.)

Gold thread (Embroidery on each side of most seams for color and to tie in the yellow collar.)

There are a few things that I'm not too happy with and hope to fix in the future (like I'm going to point them out.) I need to add a few hooks and snaps to make it fit more suggly to my body but I'm good for now.

Hope you like it!

Yeah. I liked the concept art more and did a fusion of the final 3D version and the concept art.

These pieces are fantastic works! Near spot on. I love that you've got patience to do these things, lol, me? I just try to throw meager amounts of money at people so they'll think about doing stuff for me. So far it hasn't worked. XD.

So seriously, hows about some commission work?
Eh? makes ya moneys. eh?

No big. Anyway, VERY nice work once again, Couldn't have done better myself, But I'm sure I'll end up trying those goggles anyhow...

QueenToast In reply to classicEIGHT [2007-08-08 12:57:46 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the wonderfull compliments.

I have thought about doing commissions, but it's very difficult to get a good fit on someone when I can't have the person arround to do fittings. What did you have in mind?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

classicEIGHT In reply to QueenToast [2007-08-08 20:44:33 +0000 UTC]

Yes, yes, I see how that could put a damper on things. The trick is "ONE SIZE FITS AAAALLLL!!!!" gear. Or just half-ass it like i would and let them finish the fitting to themselves XD. That could be quite the lucrative business move. or not, lol.

I very much like those goggles that you put together. So much so, that i immediately found some pairs of welding goggles that are inexpensive. lol, I'd probably just end up wearing the welding goggles and forgetting to do the rest for a long, long time.

But I've had other things in mind for cosplay that would be incredibly simple. A cloak from the anime "Desert Punk" or "Sunabozu" being the biggest of them. I haven't got a sewing machine, so a cloak is a little bit out of the question, even if it does only resemble a sheet wrapped around the wearer's neck.

But as I said before, those goggles would be a choice piece for anyone's collection. Two reasons I'd go with them are 1; You've made them and made them look GREAT, and 2, i've already got my Frankenstein's monster attempt at Jak's goggles. Still the crown piece of my collection tho. I have a tendency to ramble, So I'll cut short here before that starts, lol.

Ah but you see I'm WAY to picky about those kind of details. I have to keep a certain weight to be able to wear that costume. The more taylored the better.

You know there are TONS of things that you can do with goggles that dosen't cost that much and requires no sewing. Look up JadedDreds.com. I have a pair that I converted for Eagles fans. Check back in a few days and I'll see if I can post them.

Are you serious about the commision thing? You've peaqued my interest. I wouldn't mind the extra cash. Is this the cloak that you are thinking of?

[link]

If so It would be really easy to do.

Let me know,

OH! and post pics of your Jak goggles. I'd love to see them. Not enough Jak cosplay out there if you ask me.

classicEIGHT In reply to QueenToast [2007-08-09 03:53:42 +0000 UTC]

well, I can understand how you'd be picky about such things, it's all well and good, but there are ways around some of it, adjustable straps for example. I'll check that site as soon as I'm done here. And yes, I'm pretty serious about the commission thing, I've got a bit of spending money and nowhere to put it for the moment which combined with my lucid spending often gets dangerous, lol. That's the cloak I was talking about. As I'd mentioned, there's not much to it the only real variation between it and some bedsheets is the location of the clasp and overlap/opening. The clasp is to the right side of the neck so that the overlap comes down across the right side of the chest, almost dead center with the leg. Makes it easy to get the right hand out, or in the case of the anime, the gun. I always liked that particular style though, it's just different enough, and functional at the same time.

And I'll definitely be doing that posting of Jak goggles business... er... as soon as I get a camera, that is. I don't have much use for one, so I typically don't buy them. Though I have been planning on getting one for a while to send pics back home. Guess the reasons to get one are piling up, eh? maybe it's about time to invest...

Great. I'll get some more reference pictures and learn a little about the show (or is it a game?) Once I have an idea of what the materials cost I'll come up with a price. I'll also see about gettin my pay pal account in order so payment will be simple.

I can't wait to see your goggles!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

classicEIGHT In reply to QueenToast [2007-08-09 22:21:38 +0000 UTC]

You're right, it is a show. The best references will come from the first few episodes. It's not a very big show, so there aren't many pictures about. Just so you know, I'm not looking for anything too spectacular. I do have a specific on the collar clasp and the material as far as materials and that's (for the clasp) an actual snap button, possibly two, just in case. If you'd like you can leave the clasp out and I'll get around to that myself, this way there are no measurements needed and no extra work on your part. Anything otherwise is fine, of course. The material I'm not particular as to what sort it is, so long as it's thick. It just needs to have a little bit of weight is all, I'm not talking some thick stuff like Denim, but maybe something with the density of Duck Cloth. Just for an idea. Thanks for considering this, BTW, I appreciate it a lot.

QueenToast In reply to classicEIGHT [2007-08-10 00:17:39 +0000 UTC]

Hey, not a problem. I'm flattered that I have been asked for a commision. You are the first. (Who offered real money anyway. )

If you have any reference pictures, I would appreciate anything that you have. I need a shot of this "clasp" that you speak of. I just can't get a good shot of how it is attached. Other than that this should be an easy job. The pattern is simple. I plan to use lightweight coffee colored cotton using that same fabric to line it. Lining will give it the weight that it needs without having to use fabric that is just too heavy.

I also need to know if you want the cape to have a "worn" look. By worn I mean some minor distressing on the overall cape with the hem being a bit more frayed and tea stained. I just figure that in his line of work and the location would do a number to anybody's clolthing. If you want it to look brand spanking new that is fine as well.

If you could, please send me your contact information to t_swing@yahoo.com. From there I can give you instructions on what measurements that I need.

Lastly, I won't have time to work on it until the end of the month. I go on vacation soon and am a little buisy until then.

Thanks for the work!

BTW, I watch some of this show. It's SO rude but I love it.

classicEIGHT In reply to QueenToast [2007-08-10 02:49:42 +0000 UTC]

No problem at all. It should actually be the other way around in that I should be thanking you. Not many people would jump on a custom project no matter the simplicity of the build, especially not with such helpfulness. You're questions are good and important and you're open to what I'm looking for rather than just pitching the thing together and getting your money. That's a rarity that I enjoy finding in people who'd do custom work for me, and I typically don't like to work with someone if they don't exhibit these things... So, thanks.

A picture of the actual clasps will probably be non-existent unless you're one of the lead animators or concept artists for the studio that handles Sunabozu, but, I've got something simple in mind that should work very well, I'll have them drawn up as soon as I can, and posted online. I'll notify you as soon as I'm able.

The worn look will do fine. frayed edges and a few tattered bits should look just fine. truth be told, I may have ended up doing that myself, but if you'd like I have no problems with it at all. Other than that, I'll get the clasps done as soon as I can. After that it sound like everything's lined out, eh?

The show is great, it's one of my favorites. One of the very few that I'd go near 'fanboy' over. It makes me laugh, the story is great, the action is decent and all in all, if you can stand a few boob jokes, it's a decent show. And it makes me laugh XD.

As far as the time to start, I'm in no rush. I'll be in intersession soon and I'll be headed back across the country for a couple weeks to visit home, so I'll most probably be occupied myself. I'd say it's about time for a break from this stress n' jazz.

I'm glad I could give you a bit of work and fill those moments of "I don't have anything to do" with something to do. I may be tight with my cash, but I'm willing to pay what it takes from time to time. So, I guess That's it for now, 'cept that I got to flipping through some of my old junk and found this; [link]

It's hard to read and it's really just an old piece that never got finished, but it begs for light. I figure a Jak fan would find it at least mildly amusing.

Anyway, Later on!

Great! A sketch of the clasp will be a big help. I can't wait to hit the fabric stores!

BTW, where do you go to school? Your Location says that your're from California but you mention traveling accross the country. Are you on the east coast for school?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

classicEIGHT In reply to QueenToast [2007-08-10 18:31:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'm glad you're excited, lol. Not many people I know get giddy about hitting fabric stores! XD

Actually, my location says that I live in California. I'm from Texas up until about two months ago, born and raised.

So, I'm going to school in California and headed back home to the big T for a couple short weeks to visit with the folks and the friends.

Ever wondered what country country meets big city looks like? Well, it's not as fun as you may think until you get to use the fact that you're from the country to confuse people. Then all manner of fun hits the fan. (for about 2 weeks, I convinced a handful of people that I'd "Never done seen one'a' them movin' pi'ture boxes b'fore. Wacky fun.)

Oh! The Jacket is made of vinyl. The lining is made of cotton.

Wow I'm glad you liked the way it turned out. The colors are actually a lot darker in person. Not as if they don't work in the picture, in real life they look much closer to the Hi Res picus of Ashelin.

Like I've said before, I wouldn't be doing this cosplay if my body type didn't fit. Yea for Victoria's Secret and Birth Controll Pills!!! (More hormones=bigger ta ta's WEEEEEEE!)

honestly, first thing i saw wasn't the jakcet... i saw your tattoo, then straight to the middle of the red. can i have you now? i must say it's a very good rendition of it! i, too, took some artistic liberties in making my jacket, so i understand your rationale completely! again, very good job on the whole thing, go Ashelin!

About the jacket...I'm glad you like it. I know how particular you are about detail...as am I.

Glad you like the tattoo too. ( I assume.) When I have the trousers done you will be able to see the entire thing. In fact...I'm gonna post a better pic of it in my scraps. Check it out sometime.

haha, i keep running back to that comment where you said "you're makin' an old girl blush" or something similar. what can i say, you're pretty? what a dork! *smack*

yes, very good details, and the tube top isn't how i imagined the red part to be, but it's better than i had thought! i thought of just adding a red piece under the jacket that's sewn to the inside (what a shitty idea!), but your idea of a tube top as another layer underneath the jacket is grand!

i do like (what i can see of) the tattoo. hope to see it soon! oops, just looked... gonna comment on it now! *dances over*

Ok...calming down. Ya know I was going to do the same thing with the red "shirt" but I was out shoping for my trip to the beach and there was this table of tube tops and I thought..."Hey, that would work." It's actually a littile small so I'm going to have to go back for a larger size. Perhaps by then they will have more of a crimsony collor. This one is fire engine red. Glad you "enjoyed" it.
