Description My second inverted drawing! I couldn't resist to draw an inverted Loki picture!
But this time I waited for good light conditions and took my good camera to take a photo of this drawing... For now my eyes hurt enough and my mind is still a little bit confused about all these negative colours. So my next drawing will be "normal"...

Reference was a promo picture of Tom Hiddleston as Loki from the movie "The Avengers" (2012). Of course I inverted the colours of this picture (= negative) in Photoshop before I started to draw (I used the normal and the inverted picture for reference). The four colour pencils are just on the photo to show the effect and I used a few more colours for this drawing.

Paper DIN A4 190g/mΒ², Faber-Castell Polychromos artists' colour pencils, time: maybe 12 hours?

Please don't upload my pictures somewhere else without my permission. Don't infringe copyright!

... and here we have the 4th "HOW" comment...
Invert a reference picture in Photoshop, draw the exact colours, take a photo of the drawing, invert the photo in Photoshop and tadaaa!Β

Awesome and crazy in the same time! I would be very confused gazing on an original picture for several hours if I tried the same technique, but your result after the invertion is a real magic!

this one reminds me one of your sketch cards, is it nice to not have to colour the background black? haha

Quelchii In reply to Nislande [2014-09-05 22:37:07 +0000 UTC]

Of course!
Yes, this reference looks a little bit like the other promo picture / poster. ... and yeah, it was very nice that I didn't have to colour the background. This technique is very good if you're lazy, hate black backgrounds and want to save a lot of time!

Just give it a try. It's fun! If you don't want to draw with colour pencil try pencil, because then you just have to concentrate on one "colour".

UltraNovaDragon In reply to Quelchii [2014-09-05 22:33:25 +0000 UTC]

I love using Colored pencils. I just can't get the perfect shading when I'm coloring on Adobe Photoshop/Gimp/Paint.Net. I have a numerous amount of colored pencils that I've been collecting for years. That's why I am thinking about purchasing my first set of Faber Castell's so I can get a feel for them a lot moreΒ Β  Do you use Faber's or Prisma's for your sketches ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Quelchii In reply to UltraNovaDragon [2014-09-05 22:40:14 +0000 UTC]

I only use Faber-Castell Polychromos. I don't know where to get Prismacolors... I've never seen them in a store. Faber-Castell is everywhere in Germany!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

UltraNovaDragon In reply to Quelchii [2014-09-05 22:46:53 +0000 UTC]

Faber Castell's are really nice. Lucky to have, but it's a little too expensive for me. Unless I find a perfect deal on a pack then HECK YEAH ! I've bought the Prisma Color's at Hobby Lobby. There are other craft stores that have them. But, I would consider using non breakable color pencils with little breakageΒ Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Quelchii In reply to UltraNovaDragon [2014-09-05 22:54:48 +0000 UTC]

Polychromos are worth the money. I can really recommend them!
Ok. I know that Prismacolor is easy to get in the US. But I live in Germany other colour pencil brands have no chance against Faber-Castell (from Germany). It's the same with these "sharpies". Never heard of them. We have Edding and stuff from Staedtler.

UltraNovaDragon In reply to Quelchii [2014-09-05 23:14:54 +0000 UTC]

Whoa ! I haven't seen Staedtler markers in years. My teachers use to use them during class to grade papers with. They're not like Sharpies when the colors would stay on your fingers for days on endΒ

Quelchii In reply to UltraNovaDragon [2014-09-06 12:12:18 +0000 UTC]

Yes. That's true. But for this we have Edding... The colour stays on your fingers for a few days...
