Description So here are my current WIPs (works in progress). I have another drawing in progress (carnivorous plant), but I think I'm too lazy to finish it this month.

Drawing on the left:
The first time that I try to combine grey markers with grey colored pencils (no graphite pencil!) + a little "colour highlight"! Thor's face is almost done and I started with the light background layers for his body. I forgot to put the grey markers on the paper for the photo by the way ... and there's also a green Copic on the picture...
Paper DIN A4 190g/mΒ²; Faber-Castell Polychromos artists' colour pencils, Copic Ciao markers; ~9h so far

Drawing on the right:
I finally ordered a new drawing paper. I think it's the same paper that I bought more than 15 years ago for school (it's my favourite paper for mixed media drawings yet). But it looks like they changed it a bit in all these years and it's a bit different now...

You can find all the tools that I used in the description of every finished drawing.
Most of the time I use "Faber-Castell Polychromos artists' colour pencils".

At first I thought it's the same paper, but then I got weird "unclean" spots when I blended the colours. Then I compared the sheets and the new one is a bit more white and not so smooth (also cheaper). The quality was much better a few years ago... Hopefully one day I'll find the perfect paper!

Ja, die Zeichnung mit Thor ist wirklich sehr klein. Deshalb habe ich daran auch schon einige Stunden gesessen (und weil Thor auf dem Blatt Papier nicht alleine ist... siehe grΓΌnen Copic Marker ).

Great works, and nice WIPs: I always find it so interesting and curious to notice there aren't two artists who approach the work the same way...
Ok, I use different media from you (and that means A LOT), but I work in a completely different way: I focus on one single area and I don't step forward until that's perfect (so I'm closer to the second drawing's approach rather than to the Thor one's), but I stick to the rule "top left corner first and then move to the right and down", so I would have done his arm before than his face, if I were you.

Obviousely there's not a "better" way to work, I'm not telling you to change your (excellent) technique: I just find it amazing that an approach that leads YOU to amazing results doesn't suit ME at all...

Thank you! I'm not sure if I have "the way" for everything or a real technique. As you said it depends on the media. If I use just colored pencil (e.g. right drawing) I start with the face and then I focus on small areas and draw forward step by step (face -> background -> clothes -> again face, because I tend to draw it too pale). When I start a mixed media drawing and with markers I draw the light marker colour first, then the darker ones and so on. And then I start with the colored pencil and refine the face. The next steps depend on my mood. Sometimes I concentrate on nearby areas and draw everything step by step, but most of the time I draw completely chaotic (for example like "I don't want to draw this area now... it's boring... I fell like drawing this area first!" ).
But in general I always start with the face (if I mess it up I have to start again... that happened one time and I'm happy that I did the face first so I only lost 8 hours of my life and not 20 hours ), markers first for mixed media (because you can't erase) and sometimes from top right corner to bottom left corner for everything else (because I'm a lefty, otherwise I would smudge almost everything).

Everyone has his own technique that suits him best.

What percentage of each media do you use on a piece? Like 35% copics, 65% colored pencil? I'm curious as to the ratio.Β

It depends on the drawing. For the right drawing I only use 100% colored pencil, because I want to try out the new paper. For my mixed media drawings I usually use the Copics for a few background layers (not everything). Then I blend and cover everything with colored pencil. I think it's ~ 80% colored pencil (many layers!) and ~ 20% Copics (white gel pen and multiliner less than 1%). In the end you barely see the marker layers. But they are still very good to avoid the white spots.
