How about Gandalf popping out of nowhere to give him another unwanted lecture on how to handle warfare in Middle-earth?
Another long drawn out sigh from the Elvenking seems to be in order  
But his face is beautiful no matter what, even when he looks annoyed!

That might be a reason for his grumpiness I am sure the king doesn't like Gandalf's advising him how to rule his lands Maybe he will go into his special wine cellar afterwards and reward himself with some Dorwinion?
