It was was pretty fricken crazy. The ending was awesome. I loved when Tetsuo's arm turned into this huge mass. But, the comic book is way better because of all the other details Katsohiro Otomo put in to the Manga, unlike the movie which did not have that much detail from the manga.

One the best Japanese cartoon (anime) films of all time, it's right up there with live action films like Blade Runner.

My first anime as an adult (I did not know the word when I saw Star Blazers nor Robotech in the mid 80's as a kid), and yeah this thing set a lot of standards for me too. Some darkness, some hope, some people die, some live, and beautiful characters and story are a MUST.
