Thanks! I agree, the nose does seem a bit too long, making her look a bit "ferret-faced".

I like it but I can see what you mean about the face. As for her hair, I think it's thrown over her left shoulder...not cropped.

Looking at it now, I'm not as dissatisfied with it as I was. It's still a little anime, but it could also be said that that style of anime art is drawn that way to emulate the look of a young woman, in which case its fairly spot on. In any event, since I adopted a minimalist approach for the rest of her exposed skin, it works, I think.

I don't think her hair is that short...all the official artwork I see with her hair down show it as reaching her upper back, at the very least (it's also kinda wavy). Never cropped.

Dodgegirl32 is correct - her hair is over her left shoulder. You, however, are also correct - her hair is straight and shorter than has been typically depicted. Why? Simply that I don't feel particularly constrained to "do what has always been done", particularly with a character that has never appeared on film.
The image, as suggested by the title, is meant to portray Mara at the beginning of her career, before she was established as a genuine "supergirl". Long, wavy hair tends to suggest maturity and sophistication, so I made her hair shorter and straighter, more of a bob-cut, which is more suggestive of an 18 year old girl than a mid-20's+ badass supermodel.
