On another forum, somewhere out there on the internet, an astute Star Wars fan noted something he called "The Purple Lightsaber Effect", to wit: if any force user, Jedi or not, gets his or her mitts on a Purple Lightsaber, they become, effectively, invincible. The list of Purple bearing badasses includes:Mace Windu: Suffered death-by-plot ... he was winning, MF!
Anakin Solo: Another death-by-plot ...
Mara Jade: Ditto
Now, it could be argued that these 3 were badasses with or without the Purple ... but what about:
Ganner Rhysode! A self-confessed "pretend Jedi", the hopeless Ganner became a virtual God of Destruction when he got his hands on (you guessed it) a Purple Lightsaber!
And don't forget that Mara Jade's own Purple Lightsaber was created with a crystal grown from the "seed" provided by Mace Windu's own blade. Hmmmm.
Oh, yeah ... and there's a drawing of Mara in here somewhere, too.

Absolutely awesome, as usual, r6!! It looks right to me as the color was described as magenta in Allegiance.
No joke about the three badasses. I love Anakin and, of course, Mara. Mace, on the other hand, he's definitely cool but too arrogant for me.
You could also say that Mara was winning her final battle too...until that little creep cheated.

I actually haven't read any of the Legacy books, so I had no real knowledge of the circumstances of her final battle; however, knowing the way Mara has been treated by writers from Zahn on down, I assumed that she was cheated, because she has, not once, been written as outclassed.
Other rule-breakers for the PLE:
Yoda - as the only Jedi, pretty much ever, to die of old age (and at 900 years old to boot), Yoda was clearly earmarked for Purple. My theory is that, to his alien eyes, Green is the new Purple, meaning that not only was his lightsaber totally legit, but his whole body was made of .6 meters worth of Awesome.
Luke Skywalker - the ultimate NJO Jedi, Luke hasn't been blessed with the kind of writers that Mara has, and yet he's pretty much invincible ... but then again, he was taught by Yoda, and his lightsaber is green ... hmmmm.

She pretty much had the duel in the bag until Jacen pulled a cheap (but unfortunately and admittedly effective) illusion trick on her.

Nothin' spoiled, Darlin'! I wasn't really planning on reading them anytime soon. The whole concept of the series pretty much annoyed me from the get go.
Luke definitely has level 100 Plot Armor courtesy of George Lucas - in fact, Luke would've died in the NJO(instead of Chewbacca) if Lucas had taken him off the protected list - James Luceno was hot to kill Luke off. To be fair, though, Han and Leia share the same trait - heck, Han would've died in Empire Strikes Back if Harrison Ford and Lawrence Kasdan had had their way. Nothin' wrong with GL protecting his Franchise players.

Yeah, well ... Mace Windu's lightsaber was a lot more pink than purple, too. This one is more magenta than anything else ... but the "Pink Lightsaber Effect" doesn't sound as cool.
