Compared to Babs and Elmyra, she changed the least, maybe it is a tie between her and Shirley. She does have a Paula Abdul/Tina Turner vibe to her in this, though.

There's also this version of Elmyra that really makes her look like Fudd's kid.

Wow, I imagine these are really, really early concepts of the characters.

Yes, I believe the pre-production ones were used to seel the show and also to give hired artists and writers a starting point.
The animators had the final say on designs since they would be the ones who had to make them move.

Oo la la~ this is so flowy and curvy C: I can see each working well in an animation

You can also see that she is more of a teen looking toon with curves in all the right places.
When you look at some of the original concept art for Tiny Toons they all were designed to look older.

I don't know what they deside with Fifi, but she left Hampton, after he begun smells. Even worse, than Fifi

It looks like Haskett was influenced by Chuck Jones, in particular the design of the skunk character in that Pogo special Jones did for TV.
Got to admire the fluid mark making here.

Mam'selle Hepzibah was the skunks name and she really should be better know among furry fans, a VERY sexy character. There was a pic done for one of Bugs' birthday celebrations which had the Looney Tunes meeting the Pogo characters, in background was Mamselle being chased by Pepe LePew, now thats a natural teamup.

I always loved this Dan Haskett version of Fifi. Much better than what they used in the actual series. Those hips.

True, but ya have to remember the characters had to be designed to be easy to animate. I have 2 different model sheets for Buster Bunny, they added a head length to his character because it was tough to animate the shorter one.

These sketches definitely seem to have more "spark" to the personality, feeling more organic. I liked the show, but, I would've liked this more, I bet. Damn executive meddling.

Remember this was before a lot of computer use in animation, you had to design characters to be easy to work with. Tiny Toons was a huge undertaking with multiple studios involved and a HUGE amount of episodes planned to be ready in one season.

Yeah, I suppose if you're hiring the short bus riders over at Kennedy Cartoons, your better design elements have to be smothered in the crib.

I know, some of those studios were not as good as others. Cna't remember if it was Kennedy but I remember someone commenting you could tell one particular studios work because all the characters seemed to talk out of the sides of their mouth.

Yeah, that was Kennedy. It hurts to watch.

Cigar-chewing mouths, baggy clothes, off-model everything...

By contrast, Startoons drew everyone with cleavage.

Even Buster and Plucky.

Rabbette In reply to Teryaki [2010-08-10 00:17:01 +0000 UTC]

I'll have to check that out. I only remember cleavage on those two in the tirteensomething ep, and of course with Buster alone in Two Tone Town.
Hmmm, they'd actually come in handy for some of my fanfics at least.

Yeah, well, that's my joke. Thirteensomething was a Startoons ep. You can see if in how they draw Babs in all their eps, though.
