Exactly! I grew up with lots of Will and Grace, and The Birdcage, but the selection of queer ladies was limited to a few movies on youtube that got taken down fairly quickly. 
The show is a blessing!! (if only the fandom could be less shitty...)

Yeah I've heard the fandom is harsh Not really engaging that too much myself, except if individual people want to *joyously* freak out about the show (though, on that note, I did already get anonymous mail from someone who warned me against being a Peridot fan, because she's so "divisive" in the fandom. Yeesh).

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THE FANDOM!! DON'T LET THEM TAINT YOUR SUNSHINE!! This whole Peridot thing is just the tip of the ice-berg, trust me. These people can get militant, if need be. And according to them, it often is. 

I am very ready to freak out over the show, and Peridot with you, unless I'm scaring you off ^^'
I am sure whoever warned you meant well... but... well, that's a matter containing spoilers~
And if people are gonna be dicks over your favorite cartoon characters, they seriously need to get their priorities straight. I live and breathe for all this geeky, nerdy stuff, but i'm not gonna harass people over this!!

SO, since I'm caught up finally ( :fistbump: ) let's start with this - What's your 3 favorite things about the show (including characters, storylines, etc.)?

Mine are:

1 - Peridot in general. I freakin' love her.
2 - SO MUCH GAY. Especially the tragedy of Pearl/Rose and the beauty of Ruby/Sapphire as Garnet.
3 - That the creators/writers/etc. are very clear that the Gems, as a race, appear female but technically don't have a gender.

Oh, my! Congratulations! ... now starts the wait until June... 

1. I quite agree with all the gay!! Again, would have been so great to have that representation when I was younger. 
2. The art-style of the show. The colors and attention to detail gets me every time. I mean, 'The Answer' was so beautiful that I had to sit through it several times to soak it up!! All of those pastels and soft curves!!
3. Just to give a sort of random answer, Amethyst's laughter. Or maybe the voice-acting overall!!

I knowwwwwwww *flops over dramatically* Need more immediately. And this show needs to go on FOREVER.

(Which I know is unrealistic. Realistically, I hope for many many many seasons and a well-rounded ending that does the show justice. But still.)

Okay, so yes much about the art style too (and how much it has progressed, how polished it's gotten since the earlier stuff - including the character designs, especially Pearl's).

"The Answer" was so perfect. Art, story, music, everything. The little details, like how even from the start of it, Garnet came to Steven with her visor off - all openness, immediately apparent. And how much respect the show gives Ruby and Sapphire's love as it is. SO PERFECT. I was surprised that they came together so quickly, that it was very much Love at First Fuse, cause I expected a slightly longer courtship based on how strong their bond is. But still, the writers set it up so gorgeously that of COURSE that's what happened and there is still no question of what they are to each other. And I love that they together, as Garnet, serve as such a strong symbol of an individual person struggling with sexuality or gender "issues," someone having to stand up for who they are when others around them don't understand or approve. That's such powerful stuff. 

And the voice acting too, yesssssss. Everything on this show is so amazing. Like everyone's putting their whole heart into it.

Weeeeell, new episodes are coming out now! I'm hopefully gonna watch the latest ep today!

Yeah... there seems like there could be so many opportunities! So many things to explore! I mean, each episode is so short! It could probably go on forever!

Oh my... Poor Pearl. You're absolutely right! They have really found their footing with this style. Everything is kind of... rounder? And while the earlier seasons were very bright, the colors scheme now seems darker, but not in a bad way. And yet they maintain my pastel fantasy, it's kind of amazing! 

Garnet has been very open since she fused back again!!! She smiles much more, and yes, her relationship with Steven seems to have only gotten better!
Oh, I know the feeling so well! I kinda headcanon that the time spent together in the woods and in that cave took several months. BUt yea, love at first fuse about sums it up!!
She is perfect. Imagine how good she will do kids who are watching the show!!

 Oh yeah! This is a labor of love, without a doubt. I feel that in general, people are putting a lot more effort into children's entertainment these days! (for the most part, anyway)

Oh my heart the new episodes!!!! *happy swoon* According to the wiki page tonight's new episode was "Barn Mates," but I was able to find up through "Steven Floats" online. Have you seen everything so far?

And yes, about the animation. You're right about everything still being pastel, but darker - actually, richer, when it needs to be. Everyone involved in this show is so on their game. 

And thank you for your headcanon about Garnet's first fusion, wow! I hadn't considered that that might have been over a whole period of time! And yes, she is so perfect. Not only as a Mom to Steven, but as an example of such perfect love between two *ladies*, and of a queer individual too. SO GOOD. Seriously, I could not have imagined such a wonderful example of SO many things that need better representation.

The Norwegian dub for SU has been sucky, but this episode just kind of magically made it less sucky!! 

Hell yes!! There are so many influences, I couldn't begin to name them all! 

You're welcome!! I mean, it could be a day or something, but... I prefer to interpret the morning and evening as just a means to show how time is progressing! 
YES!! I also love that we do get to see them have their disagreements, but that they're stronger for it, and love each other so dearly! 'Love takes work and love takes time!' 

Holy shit, Garnet... I actually saw a very good post (on tumblr) about how Garnet is more open this season? She smiles more, laughs more and is closer with Steven. They said that her being unfused was sort of her 'coming out' to Steven. On Homeworld, fusion between different gems is disgusted, but Steven reacts with surprise and joy!! His first question is even if he made a good first impression! In a way, it's a very good metaphor for coming out to someone you love.

Oh no, I'm sorry the dub has been sucky but glad that at least the content is making it better Yes indeedy I have seen "Hit the Diamond," oh my little freakin' gay heart. It was SO amazing and so very well done. Of course, I am curious about why the Rubies are looking for Jasper, not Peri, BUT everything in that episodes pales in comparison to Ruby and Sapphire being the cutest space lesbians ever. Ever ever. Even cuter than Haruka and Michiru were allowed to be in Sailor Moon.

And oh my goodness yes. Garnet's 'coming out' as a fusion was such a great metaphor for coming out as queer, and as always, the whole show handled it perfectly. I think it makes a lot of sense, with that in mind, that Garnet is more open now - I can't imagine that that wasn't on purpose, and I'm so glad that you found a post about that. Means more people are noticing. So hopefully all of this is obvious to the younger people watching it too, those who really NEED to see all this gorgeous positive representation. 

(Well I mean, we need it too, but our brains are already developed and we've hopefully already become our autonomous selves, unlike the kids growing up who are still molding, still changing, still needing to find verification in what they see in media. You know?)

As for gushing, I am all scatterbrained and can't think of anything else to say, uhhhhh......oh! Lapis's journey to joining the Gems was really beautiful, too, especially this recent bit with her recovery from being Malachite and Steven showing her the world. So nice And I loved the conflict between Peridot and her, too, really showed a lot of growth on Peri's part, with her trying to become friends with her despite what happened (incidentally, a friend of mine tried really hard to get me on the Lapidot ship, but talking to another Amedot fan showed me that my shipper heart still lies with them). I do hope we'll get to see Lapid fuse with someone else soon, in a *healthier* situation. I think she needs that.

OH! And the village of the Watermelon Stevens, ahhhhh! Love it.

I am three episodes behind right now, but OH MY HEART IT HAS BEEN AN AMAZING SUMMER OF STEVEN!!!!! You are totally right about Jasper/Lapis - that defenitely seems to be the relationship parallel the writers are going for (there is obviously dialogue about abusive relationships in some of Rebcecca Sugar's personal work too). Lapis definitely needs some alone time - I do love the domesticity she and Peri have developed in the barn, though. Everything they showed in "Kindergarten Kid" of them was so cute, and low key, perfect for Lapis to rest and recover .....That said, Amedot is forever. They're just so cute, even when Amethyst is being super angsty. On that note, I love how things have unfolded, with her complete insecurity after Jasper poofed her, to her confrontation with Steven about it and then them fusing to take her down together (and oh my GAWD about getting to see Sardonyx again!!!   ). But yes, Smokey Quartz, AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!! Love how we're getting to learn more about the nature of Fusions through her, too. 

AND OMG. BISMUTH.

And yasssss Bismuth again. Just saying so, again, since its been a while since I did. Not that I'm on board with any kind of Jasper redemption, but I suddenly wonder if the bubbled gems have any sense of each other in their room inside the temple (like the Cluster's gems do) and if so, if Bismuth and Jasper might be able to relate in some strange way.

As for what Rose did, we had better get more details on that (YES WITH FLASHBACK), and soon. I don't think they can get to whatever their endgame is without going into that more.

And I haven't seen the new shorts, I am behind again *fangirl shame* The last episode I saw was the one with Onion's friends in the forest.

I assume there was, and I'm watching it right now, and aaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!! Peridot is being especially awesome and there is an adorable Amedot moment (you kinda have to squint for it, but still). That's all I'll say in case you haven't seen it yet but I am literally in the middle of watching it right now. And there's even one more after this. Yes yes.

As for responding properly, okey dokey about the 'guh.' Yes, this show. Perfection.

OH MY GOD. BIG MOMS. I love it and now I am choosing to believe in my fangirling heart that that is happening.

And yes yes again about Rose's progression. I love how good the writers are at this, the flow of ALL the character growth is handled so well, and the fact that we see that even with a character that doesn't even EXIST anymore, technically, is huge testament to their skill. 

This whole show is a blessing, oh my heart.

I am so happy with everything they've done so far. Oh. My. Heart. I think the way they handled that reveal was VERY well done, and even though what Pink did to Pearl (in becoming Rose) is awful, it makes their relationship SO much more profound - obviously there WAS so much love there, even if Rose couldn't commit to Pearl monogamously. I just..... they gave us SO MUCH GOOD in these. SO MUCH. And Ruby and Sapphire recommitting to each other AND MARRYING AND GAY KISSING ON SCREEN!!!!! aaaaaaahhhhAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Also, though I still hope for Amedot I think the Peri/Lapis was treated like a breakup story, and handled very well, and now that they've reunited WE BETTER SEE A FUSION. SOON. And new costumes with stars instead of diamonds on them!!!

Oh I DO love Stevonnie. I have gotten as far as "Joy Ride," that's all Hulu had and I'm waiting/hoping on a bonus at work to buy the rest of it on Amazon.

Steven and Connie's friendship is adorable. I love that she's the one he got to fuse with, firstly. They look amazing together, and I love what they did with that episode, using it to talk about healthy interaction and (in my opinion) consent and respect. The writing on this show is SO GOOD *dies*

It's free and should have almost every episode.  Trust me, season one is weird, but good, but season two is when things really get amped up.  And yeah, its a beautiful way of showing healthy interaction, consent, and respect.  Later on you'll see concepts like letting go, prejudice and acceptance, and even finding the good in bad things, all explored in beautiful fashion.  Plus, unorthodox love, which seems to be the biggest message of the series, and is shown through multiple viewpoints.  It's awesome.

She's definitely amusing, though unfortunately her humor starts out very cringe worthy because she's so indoctrinated by Homeworld teachings... but yes, her redemption is beautiful to behold.  Especially since you see hers, whereas we can only largely guess what happened with Pearl and Rose.  You also get to see Ruby and Sapphire's in a latter episode.

It's SO good. My gods. I cannot recommend it enough. It is easily one of the weirdest and best shows I have ever seen.
