Description Before I get onslaughts of "That isn't Toothless!!! He's big and black!", this is Toothless from the books.

I do like the HTTYD movies, but I really wish they didn't take the name. Change all the names in the movie and the movie's title and you would never be able to make a connection. The two are so different I don't even know why they referenced it.

Anyway, personally I love love love LOVE the books of HTTYD <3 (More than the movies!) Toothless is such a little brat, but his relationship with Hiccup, Camicazi, and Stormfly is so great. If you've never read the HTTYD books, I highly recommend them. I cried at the last one, man.

Likely the last image you're gonna get before I'm shipped off to the lake and then Germany. Tried out a different shading style that's more smooth, not sure how I feel about it.

Nice job with this! What do you think of Toothless in the books?

Thanks!

I like Toothless in the books a lot better because I feel he's written more as an integral character than a dopey sidekick

Yeah. I like that too about him. How did you react when you found out that he is a sea dragon? Sorry about the questions.

It's np, I don't mind answering. ^^

I was less surprised than I should have been because that was accidentally spoiled to me when I was googling the book it was revealed in. I was trying to figure out the name of it so I knew what to buy but 'seadragonus maximus' in the description caught my eye and I accidentally spoiled it for myself. I'm an idiot, I know

Regardless I really didn't expect it before I spoiled myself and I find it's a really unique twist to the story. I really loved how everything - even Toothless' species - mattered to the very end

Yeah. Many things were important in the Httyd books. And don't worry, I spoil books for myself as well sometimes XD

What do you think of Windwalker?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rackiera In reply to Zerodestiny1-6-9 [2017-02-16 23:30:29 +0000 UTC]

I really liked the Windwalker. They (can't remember if they were male or female) were an interesting  character to watch develope in the background. They were nowhere near as 'up front' as Toothless was so you had to read in between the lines to understand what was going on with them.

Zerodestiny1-6-9 In reply to Rackiera [2017-02-16 23:33:09 +0000 UTC]

I'm pretty sure that Windwalker is male, and yeah, he is more like a secondary protagonist, but he is quite interesting nonetheless. What do you think of the Deadly Shadow?

Rackiera In reply to Zerodestiny1-6-9 [2017-02-19 03:38:47 +0000 UTC]

I found the Deadly Shadow a really interesting dragon because it had a lot of history attached to it. Iirc, there was also a pretty interesting "fear the dragon" and then "the dragon changes sides" arc with it, too, when it was first introduced. It also felt great to have Fishlegs get an ally that really made him feel good, the poor guy goes through so much!

Zerodestiny1-6-9 In reply to Rackiera [2017-02-19 03:41:16 +0000 UTC]

Yep. I feel really sorry for Fishlegs. And the dragon is also quite... interesting. The backstory is kinda heartbreaking. Just asking, who's your favourite character if I haven't asked already?

Lingondraken [2016-07-01 06:20:00 +0000 UTC]

Oh that looks SO much better! I mean the film is far from being a bad one, but the dragon's designs, just... No.

I did figure this was from the book though as I saw it in my inbox. The shading looks pretty nice! :3

Rackiera In reply to Lingondraken [2016-07-01 15:32:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, a lot of the designs made me cringe... mostly because of the anatomy, though, and how wonky a lot looked. Toothless was the most believable, even if his wings were still.. out there. (More like sails than wings) But then you have the gronkle and whatever movie-Stormfly was and it was just... ugh. A bit too exaggerated for my tastes. Though honestly, the movie gronkle 's design is at least sort of similar to the original gronkle . Though the original gronkle at least had somewhat properly sized wings.

Anyway, enough going on and on about designs, thank you!

Lingondraken In reply to Rackiera [2016-07-04 13:36:21 +0000 UTC]

Hmm yes. They went all out on the wonky designs.

Insane-Randomness [2016-07-01 06:00:52 +0000 UTC]

You had it on me, I was like, "I'm pretty sure that toothless is black." and then I read the description and laughed.  I haven't read the books yet, and probably won't until I have my own kids and start reading them kids books.  You gotta admit though that the movies are just as good of a tear jerker.  The third one is gonna be bad...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rackiera In reply to Insane-Randomness [2016-07-01 15:35:38 +0000 UTC]

Gotcha!

The books are pretty good for all ages. I started reading them when I was much younger, sometime in Elementary school. I didn't fully understand the lessons and deeper meanings of the books until I reread them recently, however - a lot of those lessons are very good life lessons for all ages. But yes, they are written for younger audiences for certain. I think I found the last books in the ages 10-12 section? I felt a little silly browsing there with my aunt at 18 years old, haha

The movies are definitely good and certainly tear-jerkers, too. I just wish they seperated the two out since they have no real connection (Though the author of the books herself likes the movies, so no harm no foul, I suppose)

Haha yeah
"HICCUP! T-T-TOOTHLESS NEEDS TO PEE! N-NOW!"
"Toothless, it's the middle of the night..."
"H-HICCUP WILL GET UP AND BRING T-T-TOOTHLESS OUTSIDE OR T-TOOTHLESS WILL PEE IN H-HICCUP'S BED!"

i didn't read the last one yet, i loved those books! And before i start ranting about why they changed all the names, i am glad someone else agrees with me. Don't get me wrong, the movie is great and all but has nothing to do with the books plot wise.
Toothless is the largest species of dragon isn't he, he looks like he is smirking!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rackiera In reply to BettaWyvern [2016-07-01 15:45:00 +0000 UTC]

There's a surprising lot of us with that opinion out there, I learned recently! Though the movies seem to be the most popular of the two and the books do end up sort of forgotten, sadly. Definitely pick up the last book, though!!

At first it's thought he's the one of the smallest and most common species... then the later books happen. You're right, but I won't say the name for the sake of anyone reading the comments
