6/05/03 - First post-able new artwork in too long. Lizzie strutting her nurse-like-self while helping those poor wounded soldiers. Tweaked the background a bit before uploading here. I think it turned out decent, but it's still a glorified pin-up.Related content

Harsh, but I do agree with most of what you're saying, Krishva. Most of your comments are spot-on. A sign of laziness and lack of practice on my part. I'll try to do better on my next piece, and might attempt to tweak this one slightly. At the very least bring the border in a little bit more so the feet look less awkward. Possibly, fading out the background will help a number of the colour issues. I wanted to blend the background image and the map a bit, anyways.
Though I'm not so certain about your comment on the red crosses. At least on my computer and the print I've made, the crosses are a very subdued shade of red that doesn't seem to stand out too much from the rest of the picture. Does it really stand out that much?
I'm also not sure about the pose. I mean, I seem to be able to hold that pose myself easily and with no discomfort or awkwardness, but I don't have the benefit of a full length mirror to see how it looks from this view so I might be doing it wrong. I do generally like to see if a pose is feasible before I commit it to the final piece. Hmm. Definitely have to check on that.
I was pretty suprised when this, of all my uploads, got 'choice of the day' over at Elfwood. I have many much better pictures up over there. Thanks much for the input!

Sorry, Radd--I see a number of problems with this one that are so distracting that, although I like most of your work, I really don't care for this picture. Her feet seem to be positioned awkwardly--the one on the right is turned in too much, making her seem off-balance. Minimal attention seems to have been paid to her facial expression, which seems mindless and bland, and the way her head is turned seems awkward altogether. Her clothing seems to be folding stiffly and looks almost as if it is made of canvas. The choice of black as the dominant color in her uniform was a poor one: it makes her simply recede into the dull monochromatic background, which should be helping her stand out as the only color element in the image. The red crosses contrast far too hard with all the dull colors and make this image very hard on the eyes.
I hope this comment doesn't upset you--I post it assuming that you will take it in a professional fashion, as your work is normally of a professional quality.

OOooooh, ahhhh. I definately dig this. I'm a fool for nurse outfits anyway but the whole, badass nurse lizard thing is just way cool. The hips look a tad weird, but the shading is fantastic, and the overall anatomy is wonderful. Especially the feet and the hands.
