NOTE: IF YOU NEED ANY CONFIRMATION ON ANYTHING IN THIS BIO, PLEASE NOTE ME WITH QUESTIONS AND I WILL TRY TO EXPLAIN AS BEST I CAN. I realize this an alien race and some of the ideas may seem a little convoluted; please, don't hesitate to verify anything with me.

General

Name: Dr. Folius (he has no first name); is also reffered to simply as Doctor.

Age: Human equivalent is 45

Gender: Male

Species: Eydouxii

Ethnicity or Breed: Greater

Hair: No hair; the frills on his head which look somwhat hair-like at first glance raise and redden to intimidate.

Eyes: Yellow and slitted; eight of them. One main pair and three smaller pairs.

Height: Approximately nine feet when standing full.

Languages: His native language, which is made up of chirps and squawks and squeals; English, and a small bit of Latin that pertains to his medical career.

Religion: His species worship a mother goddess; legends tell of how she gave birth to their world as her egg. Their religion stresses purity and life; bathing is a daily ritual, to cleanse the body and mind.

There are several taboos, such as not killing one of your own species, not overkilling during hunting and upsetting the life balance, and never, -ever-, harming a nesting or pregnant mother or her babies. Such crimes are punishable by death -- by drowning. This is to purify the rest of the species, who are brought down by their kin's impurity, as well as to purify the dead (through water). This is the only excusable reason to kill.

Folius is extremely religious, though his work as a doctor and, even more so, as a pirate has him somewhat conflicted -- obviously pirating would require killing, and some of the earlier experiments he performed as a doctor did as well. He rationalizes this within himself by praying often for forgiveness and explaining the deaths away as 'necessary'.

Sexuality: His species are non-social and are not capable of natural feelings of friendship or love; they do not feel carnal pleasure and mating is done entirely on instinct. For the sake of simplicity he is asexual, but sexually active merely out of necessity.

(*more about mating - it is done orally by his kind. During mating the male's tongue serves as the sex organ, entering a slit under the female's tongue. The eggs develop in a pouch in her neck, until they are about the size of baseballs, at which point they are laid via the mouth and hatch. That is the only relationship they can truly comprehend - that between a mother and her hatchlings.)

History

Folius was taken from his home planet when he was the age equivalent on earth of about sixteen or so (three Eydouxii years, which is equivalent to about 10.5 earth years). He was part of a humanoid experiment to attempt to 'civilize' his species. Thus, he was already and still strongly is in connection with his culture, especially his religion. It was originally a constant source of worry for him, once off the planet, that he could not bathe daily, though once he entered into the medical field after his 'civilization'; and he found much easier and more thorough methods of sterilization, this became a moot point. Because of the precise nature of his species in their hunting style, medicine and science seemed perfectly suited for him. He was intrigued at the idea that there were people who wished to be cut open and have things moved around, and once he realized that it was, in a way, a job that dealt directly with giving and preserving life, he poured himself into it with a passion as he saw it as doing the Goddess's work (he is extremely proud of this, believing he has been chosen to be a direct emissary of the Goddess).

He quickly rose to the top of his class and graduated with honors... but couldn't get a job (any places of employ he applied to ended up turning him down on the grounds that his appearance would 'frighten the patients', though this always felt a rather weak argument to him; he believed they felt he was too much of an 'uncivilized' species and that, in the presence of blood and open wounds, he would 'revert'; his only medical training had been on those already deceased). Eventually he found his way to the Nexus port planet, where he set up a small shop in the Red District, taking whoever came to his door for prices even a common gutter whore could afford.

He became a pirate after treating Captain Morgan for a minor wound he'd received. Amadeus, rather taken with both his talent and his personality, took Folius on as surgeon and eventually quartermaster, promising him an abundance of surgery and dissection opportunities on many interesting species.

Personality

Folius is very critical and pays attention to detail. He prefers to think things through before doing them, and will never be found acting merely on a 'hunch'. Though he does not naturally experience relationships as humans do, he has made it his area of study and so can understand it. He refers to his crewmembers as his 'friends', for instance.
Human sexuality also intrigues him, and is something of a pet project to him. This is possibly because he wishes he could feel something similar, though it's not nearly enough of a worry to him for it to have any effect on his demeanor past this interest.

He is well spoken and can banter without thinking. He has an excellent memory and can put things together and make mental leaps fairly easily.

Abilities

First and foremost is his medical knowledge. He is extremely well-versed in anatomy, human and alien (though he is somewhat more comfortable with human, as it is his own area of interest). As seen above, he has one large bag that contains his more sensitive medical material, such as his syringes and vials and bottles of various antidotes and poisons, as well as a simple first-aid kit. In the pouches on his leg-belt are simpler things -- gauze and smaller bandages, as well as something to sharpen his saw against and a few special trinkets he carries which aren't really important.

As also seen above, his only true weapon is his saw, which is generally wielded one-handed and is only a last-resort if his claws and teeth etc. can't do the job.

He also has the sheer strength of his hunting-honed body. His senses of sight and smell are much more developed, to make up for his lack of touch-type sense (halfway because of his scales, and halfway because of the next point).

When his kind are born, their sense of touch is very high, and their scales are very soft. This encourages the hatchlings to stay together in the nest - touching is pleasurable and calming, and after enough there is a 'lateau' stage, wherein a level of complete calm and contentment is reached. That is the closest to physical pleasure their kind can experience, and after the first few months of babyhood, it is all but gone. Their sense of touch dulls and their scales harden; their pain and pleasure thresholds go up quite a lot. This is important to his fighting because, to put it simply -- most of what humans would consider painful is pleasurable to him. He often 'acidentally' cuts himself while washing his surgical implements, for instance (his kind often never discover this, as they have no natural enemies and it is taboo to hurt each other).

He has been a pirate long enough that killing comes easily to him; he feels comfortable enough merely praying to make up for it later (it could be said that his job has gotten somewhat in the way of his faith).

I think the way that you draw him is improving (besides the updates/redesign).
I also notice that his torso is more human-shaped than before. Is that an intentional change, or just the way that he turned out in this image?

it's the way it's always been shaped 0_o. So it was unintentional, yeah. XD;

And I'm glad you think he's improving; so do I. Finally abandoned the ol' wedgehead.

xD "Wedgehead."
Well, no, in all of your other pictures his torso was only vaguely human-shaped; it was too long to look humanoid and had a more reptilian form, presenting a very subtle S-like shape in his posture. In this image, however, his torso looks humanoid and lacks the previously stated features.

A beautiful design, I think the good Doctor (mine, at least, considering they both are) is going to be in quite a bit of awe.
