Hello! Thanks for the question, i'll try to answer clearly...
Well first, keep the same clay in two different colors toghether (you'll can try more than two later)for allmost two weeks in a closed plasic bag.
The clay i use is sold white, yellow, green blue, red or black. I always buy Beck unchamotted clay. (here only white and black is used)
After the two weeks, cut in many parts each collor of clay and put them toghether melt to create a new ball. Hit the ball to avoid air bubbles from the clay and wedge your ball of clay lightly. The more you wedge your clay the less you'll see the swirl lines. It's up to you to stop your melting action...
When you are there you just have to throw your piece on the wheel.
