I'm glad you like the older painting now, and I never would have called it botched! This one is serene though and quite a different take on the character. Her pose is delightfully natural, and I think that's only helped by the dark shades and sparse lighting; in this way, the painting demands a closer and longer look.
It's good to see some artwork following something so life-consuming as a thesis paper

Definitely drowsy; which is interesting given the use of bright colours. Great stuff as ever. Your brush technique has a lot of energy, so it's great how here it's showing something calmer. Can you not upload pngs?

Well I suppose quality for you it depends on your scanner/photography capabilities, but a png would give a much higher resolution view, without the degrading associated with jpgs. It might also just be an upload thing, dA can be strange like that. A png would let me get at all the finer details of the brush work ^^
