Description My heart is a fish
hiding in the water grass
in the green
in the green

I wanted to draw something symbolic about Justice of Toren One Esk Nineteen, using the lyrics of the song she often hums or sings throughout the book. I have come to think of it as her subconscious anthem, since she doesn't seem aware that it is oddly relevant to her... it's just one of many songs she has picked up over thousands of years.

I also wanted to paint a proper portrait of her.

So this is what I managed to turn out. Not as cool as I was hoping, but it gets the basic ideas and symbolisms across. And I had fun with it too

I was trying to make her skin dark but the problem I always have with watercolor is making the overall balance of color right so that certain colors actually look the right shade next to other colors. So I think I made some of the other colors too strong, so that once I was done, her skin didn't look dark anymore, and trying to go over it again so gradually overworked the paper and resulted in a grainy texture.

I also made her nose too long and the hallway perspective is wonked up.

One of these days I will get it right...

but I like this as an important step toward doing art more frequently.

so many things in this pic are symbols lawl I sure love my symbolism

This is very good!! I really like the whole thing...it's a shame I don't understand the symbolisms you added ;( i suck at those things lol
but that sadness on his face is very very well done.

well it would be hard to get the symbolism if you hadn't read the book. Thank you for commenting! The symbolism is mainly in the two doors, and the direction things are flowing.
