Part Thirty-Two
Finding out what happened to the elves could answer the question of where the Vurnumian crystals might be located in Ayrdland. Locating those seemed to be the key to finding the temporal tethers if not Emma herself. The one created with Cordovan’s death was due to her direct involvement. The whole thing bothered both Galen and Ivana. Their personal past was intruding into the current timeline, or at least the galactic politics. Alien races were hell bent on interfering with humanity no matter what reality. Why? What made Earth and their species so important to the other races of the galaxy? In their time it was because humans’ accelerated advances in technology, but that was over two thousand years in the future. What was their interest in this reality which was essentially still mired in the Dark Ages? Their battle in orbit was no coincidence nor was it a chance encounter. Both elves and orcs came here for a reason, but what was that reason? They decided to wait with speaking with the local orcs especially since the enchantress stated they remained secluded. Galen doubted they would provide the answers they sought simply because they were human.
Asking Aura or any of the other inhabitants might prove insightful but could also be fruitless. Ivana decided it was best to split their group at this juncture to gather intel. Etyssa would take Aura back to the Valley of the Mystic Moon to speak with her friends there for any clues while Alicia joined them. The enchantress hoped either Elizabeth Lovejoy or Miriam Fayne might have ideas or at least a place to start their search. Terressa would fly above the neighboring islands for others signs of wreckage. Ivana feared most would be located underwater, but any possibility was worth investigating. In the meantime they would search on ground for anything not visible from the air. After a day they found nothing. Terressa continued with the other islands surrounding Ayrdland.
While Galen and Sven explored some ruins on the other side of a valley, Ivana sat against the face of a fallen statue. Built sometime in a past even Baroka couldn’t recall, the face resembled a human indicating they once inhabited the islands. Everything seemed to grow more complicated just when it felt they had discovered the way to rescue her daughter and her friends. It seemed simple enough a task back in Cordovan’s tomb, but now she wasn’t sure where to go next. Finding the tether was blind luck at this point, and they needed more than luck. They needed answers to a growing number of questions.
“I sometimes wonder what happened to the others,” Celeste said a short distance away. “Now more than ever before, I suppose. Like if we went to different realities in pairs or groups, and how those were determined.”
“You mean how you came here with Cordovan, and I went to another reality with Galen…”
“Yeah, but why you and not his daughter?”
“We’re here to find our daughter,” she replied unsure what her old friend was suggesting.
“You mean he didn’t tell you?” Celeste asked speaking with her hands. “He has another daughter with his first wife.”
“You must be mistaken. They didn’t have a child together. He would’ve told me if they did…he’s told me everything from his past…everything.”
“Then maybe he didn’t know,” the blonde replied sitting on a nearby boulder. “I swear, when those kids boarded the Pride, one girl asked another if he was her father. She said he was. Cordo and I assumed they referred to Galen since we knew they weren’t talking about him. They hadn’t seen either Mak or Mace.”
“That bitch did a lot of things to him,” she huffed while rolling her eyes. “Somehow this doesn’t surprise me. She withheld a lot of things from him just because she wanted to control him. You know she’s the one who placed the bounty on his head? I fucking swear…the more I learn about Kyoko Nakamura, the more I hate that woman. Each time I replay that meeting on the station, the more I’ve come to regret not shooting her myself. She treated him like shit even during their marriage. He was too loyal to her even in the end. This sounds bad, and normally I wouldn’t feel this way especially in regards to another human being, but in Kyoko’s case…I’m glad she’s dead.”
“Probably a good thing you didn’t shoot her. Especially since your daughter has a half-sister out there somewhere.”
“Rebecca knows about her,” Sherman stated walking up to the fallen statue. “Sorry, I couldn’t help but overhear you two.”
“It’s alright, Sherman,” she said rubbing her forehead. “What do you mean she knows?”
“I don’t know if I should say anything more,” he replied with a look of concern. “I may have said too much already. You’re her mother, and she has her reasons for not telling you, but I don’t want to betray Becca’s confidence.”
“Let me guess…she saw her in our old reality during one of her trips with the Serpent of Time. Where our original versions survived.”
“Wait a minute,” Celeste interjected. “What do you mean our original versions?”
“We’re copies, Cel. Created by the spatial rift of the gravitic drive. Becca’s told us some details…how we actually survived the jump in that timeline and continued on to rescue the entire crew and those kids. She can’t divulge any more details than that because of the restrictions of the Serpent of Time. Blending of realities and timelines and whatnot. Finding you here was a complete surprise, though I image she would’ve known you were here…” her voice trailed off.
“What?” Sherman asked.
Ivana stood surprising the others including Tora who walked through the nearby trees towards them. “We’re looking at this all wrong. The answer was in front of us this entire time. We aren’t looking for one Emma but hundreds if not thousands…”
“We already thought about her jumping back and forth through time…” Sherman stated.
“No…not one Emma jumping through time,” she said waving her finger at herself and Celeste. “But copies…just like us. Many versions of the same person all interconnected somehow and working in conjunction with one another. They know about each other and are working together. She may have created them all herself with these tethers. Regardless of the how, we have to figure out their goal. What do they hope to acomplish?”
“If you excuse me…I think I just soiled myself,” the mathematician said turning away. “One Emma scares the shit out of me. Now we’re talking about multiple Emma’s? I-I-I can’t.”
Celeste laughed. “I think we just ran out of TP.”

Mystery in the Past 033 Part Thirty Three
Normally entering the Valley of the Mystic Moon required a journey through the bowels of Ralthangarle. However, Etyssa’s portal opened into the heart of the enchanted valley. A circle of stones, like Stonehenge on their Earth, positioned where two ley lines intersected. While Aura was amazed this was even possible, she was also grateful she wouldn’t have to face her deepest fears once more. Perhaps the Atlantean could teach her how to do this after this was all over, but for now she was content with finding Fayne and or Lovejoy first. She also admired Ivana’s choice to send only the magic users of their group into the Valley. Whether she did this out of fear of the enchanters or a respect for their privacy didn’t matter, it showed an awareness Aura rarely saw in those outside of the order. Most looked to wizards for aid in making thei
