Description

The question of cultural and societal progress is an interesting one in Veil.

With many creature species having life spans that stretch into centuries, and a small number even into millennia, there is an inherent risk of cultural stagnation compared to the wider human society. Less of an issue in centuries gone by, where culture and technology advanced on a scale of decades, but increasingly more significant in more modern ages.

This is not just unwillingness (although it certainly is on occasion), but a matter of recollection and experience. For example, an elf can easily be considered little more than middle aged, and yet still recall a time before Richard Trevithick had built the first steam railway locomotive. With living memory stretching into centuries, it can be a natural anchor in the psyche of longer lived creatures.

This is however more of a possibility than a hard and fast rule. With Veil very much linked to the wider world, there is not the entrenched and wilful ignorance displayed in many examples of fantasy fiction (which, as noted in a previous description, is often voraciously consumed by inhabitants of Veil). Even amongst those that elves would consider ancient, some will happily adopt the culture, fashions and customs of the times.

This one was mostly just an experiment to see if I could emulate a pose from a sketch I found in my art inspiration folder. (Alas, I cannot track down a source for the sketch, so I can't link it, and I don't feel in good conscience uploading it without credit).

This was done via a dForce simulation (with a pair of phantom hands, as that was a lot easier than trying to animate a proper transition) that was then converted to a morph and copied to another (less dForce compatible) shirt.

Said sketch was not being acted out by a zombie, but Emma is one of those characters who I just find enjoyable to use.

Fracturing Veil

It is 2018.

The United Kingdom is still arguing over Brexit, Vladimir Putin has been re-elected for his fourth term as Russian president, and a disillusioned AI super-soldier is failing to live a normal life.

After witnessing vampires attack a police officer she'd only just met, the pair are thrown into a world hidden from mortal eyes. Recruited by "Cerberus", they find themselves working alongside a sarcastic half-dragon, a distant arachne sorceress, and other paranormal denizens in order to try to maintain a 500-year ceasefire.

This is the Fracturing Veil.
