Description
Commission for *Red-Fathom , his character Anosyn.My tablet started dying during this commission so it took longer than it ever should have... but uuuuuugh I don't want to have to buy a new tablet, nuuuu.

This is an amazing piece.. and as a side note I am completely appreciative of the lack of breasts for a reptile female... I mean... really. Reptiles don't have that in the first place.

YES. I ALSO NOTICED AND APPRECIATED THAT. I love that she can not only be female but also be lovely without boobs, an hourglass figure, and like, huge eyes or something. It's not just that reptiles don't have them, because reptiles don't usually stand on two legs or work at hospitals either so obviously this is just fantasy, but I love that this character doesn't pander to dumb stereotypes. Refreshing!

I dimly recall a similar character somewhere- about a raptor ( i think it was a raptor) who was a scientist, but had to be in a protected cell becasue he would often go crazy and try to eat people. Some old movie....

Well, I haven't gotten a new one yet. I intend to keep using this one until it just doesn't work any more at all, and then... I don't know what I'll do with it. Make it into a coaster, maybe, or a tv tray? I don't know why anyone would want to buy a tablet that doesn't work at all...

How much are these things? And what model would you get? I might be able to get a discount from work for ya ... at least, I used to. They were going to switch employee-perk suppliers earlier this year, but I'm not sure if that finished or not.

I'm using a Wacom Intuos2, although they don't sell those any more. They've upgraded to Intuos3 now. The size I use, 6x9, is around $330 USD. :/ The tablet still works off and on, and it's fine for things that don't require drawing precise lines, like normal computer use, so I'm dragging my feet on buying a new one just yet. Especially because I don't have a good job yet, haha.

I work for a defense contractor, but we usually have some sort of corporate employee discount thing going on with lots of vendors, including those who sell Wacoms. I'll snoop around for ya, and if I can find a good deal, I'll let you know. Maybe we can work out a trade.

Broken tablet?? D: May just be a loose connection or something fried on its board. But of course it'd probably be less frustrating to just replace it. We need a new one, ours is a crappy graphire with not many pressure levels. But we just bought CorelPainter!!
Would such advanced lizards still use heatrocks? Got to have one in a lizard hospital for belly-aches. Perhaps its braincase-bodyweight ratio is big enough not to poop on its heatrock. Then again that would solve the issue of bedpans. :laugh:

Is the graphire really crappy, though? I've heard it's still really useful. I got an intuos but I'm wondering if that was actually overkill, and if I could do fine with a graphire. All the ones they make these days are wireless, though. I have really bad luck with wireless things. D: So I hesitate.
I would use a heatrock if I were an advanced lizard. I want a heat rock anyway.

Marcie says our Graphire gets an attitude when you try to do delicate work. You just have to be careful.
CompUSA has twiced screwed me over with crappy electronics. The first time I returned three laptops in succession cause they all had something wrong with them. Either the speakers were blown or programs that had absolutely no reason not to work were not working. The techy told me you can't load a whole game on a laptop, which is ridiculous. They then would only let me spend the money in their store, they would not give me a refund.
We bought a mac from there recently and had to take it to a Mac specialist store to get it fixed. It had some issues . . .But that instance it may have been the power socket we had it plugged into, so may have not been their fault.

I really like how you bring out all those different green tones on the highlighted areas, gives it a neat touch. Also the anatomy is perfect as always.
Do you make all the scales free-hand? And how long does it take more or less to make something like this? in case your tablet hadn't started failing

Yes, I do all the scales by hand. As for how long it takes... that's very difficult to say! I usually wind up doing several pages of sketches of the character before I render it up enough to make into a drawing like this. Then I need to check with the commissioner to make sure everything looks as it should... but usually it doesn't, and the amount of correction needing to be done can be something really simple, like eye shape, to something very difficult that requires that I completely redraw the whole character. Then, coloring depends on how complicated the character is. This one actually wasn't so bad because the character is fairly simple and doesn't require lots of extra drawings, like wingspan or feet or anything. but this one made me die: [link]
Usually I work on them over the course of a couple days, since this kind of commission requires the most back-and-forth between me and the commissioner. It's hard to give an estimate for time. sorry. :/
