Ruby Rose of my RWBY AU. Which still needs a name... This version is a bit too similar to dishwasher1910's Ruby for me, So I'll definitely change her a lot more.(Will upload a colored version too.)

The art's nice, but the actual design needs a lot of work. It suffers from "Wait who's that?" syndrome. If it weren't for the weapon, I would never guess that this is supposed to be Ruby. When making an AU design, you need to keep certain key design aspects of a character in order to keep them recognizable. For example, giving Ruby an over the shoulder ponytail is just a bad idea. Ruby's always had short/medium length hair that has a very distinct shape and coloring. Fan art that gives Ruby long hair keeps her identifiable by retaining those two elements, keeping it recognizable. Another problem is the face. In this image, Ruby's cheekbones are too high and her jawline is too narrow. Ruby's face is short and round, with only minimal emphasis on her brow, jawline, cheekbones and forehead. Furthermore, her outfit is too far removed from Ruby's actual style. Yes I know it's an AU and the last two points could be chalked up to"creative liberties" and individual artstyle, but you can only stretch that so far. As it stands, the drastic changes to the character's key design aspect make this piece feel more like an OC rather than AU.

Copy that. Will work on all of that. & concerning the overall face shape, Sorry that's just how I'm used to drawing faces. Most of this was using minimal reference.

Well it's definitely good, all things considered. You don't need to apologize, everyone draws differently. But there are definitely improvements that can be made. I'm sure you'll figure it all out as you change and add to the design more.
