Description Normally I see something silly for a milestone like this. So I decided to do the opposite and post something tragic.

Some of you might remember Quinn and Sammie from Days of the Duplex Chapter 6, which I posted over the summer. For the newbies out there (aka those who don't know much about the PRR) these two engines were the official Pennsylvania Railroad prototypes for the Duplex concept. Sammie the class S1 was built for passenger trains, and Quinn the class Q1 for freight. Unfortunately, they weren't too successful. So much too the point where both of their classes are on my Top 10 least favorite locomotives. Not only did they have a REALLY restrictive working range due to their weight, but Quinn's wheel layout and overall proportions were not really suitable for a freight engine. As for Sammie, she was so long she would've fit on any turntables, she was more prone to slipping than any of the T1s, and was larger and more powerful than a Union Pacific Big Boy, yet could only get less than half that power onto the rails.

This sketch was made over the summer to replicate the last few lines in Chapter 6. Sammie trying to comfort an already-Dead-lined Quinn, shortly before the passenger duplex herself is retired from service as well. Truly, a sad, but not quite an unexpected end for the Pennsy's "Big Engine."

Sammie, Quin, and DotD are (c) Me.

Okay, can explain how in the world is the S1 more powerful than Big Boy? Especially considering in terms of tractive effort the S1:Β 76,403 and Big Boy:135,375.

In terms of horsepower, the S1 was greater. While the Big Boy could match the horsepower of four F7s, the S1 put out the same power as three E9s.Β

Thanks for clearing that up. Man, people need to explain in which category is the locomotive powerful in. Horsepower or tractive effort otherwise it gets confusing.

By the way since you scrapped this chapter, what were these characters planned personalities and what was their reaction due to how unsuccessful both their models were?

...I didn't scrap this chapter. It's in DotD Chapter 6, though this particular scene doesn't take place until the last few paragraphs.

I'll have to read the chapter again because I vaguely remember it.
One last thing, which articulated locomotive do you think rival or surpass the Big Boy? Because while the Big Boys are definitely the most popular and well-known articulated locomotive, some people over exaggerate them like saying that no steam loco surpasses a Big Boy.
