Description So. Uh. Anyone like Order of the Stick? ([link] )

It's a really, really, really amazing comic. It's D&D oriented, so you'll get a lot more of the jokes if you knew at least a little about how to play the game, but it's still really good. It's starts out pretty generic (if not a little confusing to those who are reading from the web comic and not the books) but it eventually snowballs into pretty much an explosion of intricate story lines; the characters all grow and learn things, the jokes are all pretty much amazing, and the characters are possibly the most believable and fantastically (and oddly) deep beings ever created for the purpose of a nerdy webcomic. Seriously, I couldn't recommend this highly enough. Well, I could, but I don't have the capacity.

In case anyone actually read this entire praise filled comment and is intrigued by the idea of the greatest web comic ever (because it is) then know that it's a little confusing in the beginning. I'll give you the haps: They're in a dungeon. Now you know!

Oh this is hilarious! Smug V and annoyed Belkar, it's great. "Bugsby's Hand of Halfling Annoyance" am I right?

By the way, Order of the Stick is, indeed, awesome.

Awesome awesome awesome job. I love how you've captured the fantastic relationship between those two. I really feel that they love to hate each other.

You just keep getting better and better! Order of the Stick is AMAZING. This drawing totally describes their relationship.

So hey, Vaarsuvius: dude or dudette?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH I'm so glad you like OotS! I love that comic. It's too amazing for words. <33

Uh... I don't know. I think it sort of depends on what mood I'm in. I tend to think dude, but at the same time, I feel like probably not? -laugh- I think I just think of V as V; thinking any harder makes my brain hurt. -laugh-

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. I love drawing Vaarsuvius. V's like an addiction; such a badass.

Spell abuse for the win!

Wait, does it count as abuse when it's Belkar, or is it automatically pre-emptive self-defense?

Aw, what the hell. Awesome pic. ^^

Rainbow-man In reply to Kaytara [2011-01-17 04:12:22 +0000 UTC]

Pre-emptive self defense, totally. -laugh- Though spell abuse is still fun, even if it's not necessarily applicable to this picture.

Haha, thank you. I've been going on a pseudo-obsessive stint with OotS. Haha, I love Vaarsuvius. And Elan, but goddang, he's a lot harder to draw than I want him to be. XD

Kaytara In reply to Rainbow-man [2011-01-17 12:40:54 +0000 UTC]

Elan's easy - just think Guybrush Threepwood from Monkey Island, only a bit more goofy.

Obsessive stint, yeah, I've been there. Must've been a year when I spent drawing almost nothing but OotS, and mostly Vaarsuvius at that. O.O V's the one who's hard to draw for me, what with hir androgyny and stuff.

Wait, I remember you. You left a bunch of awesome reviews on my stories on FF.net. Much appreciated. ^^

Rainbow-man In reply to Kaytara [2011-01-18 04:21:43 +0000 UTC]

Wow. That's actually a perfect example of him, which is really odd. XD

Well, I knew about the series for about a year before I actually got online and read it. I was introduced to the first book and the prelude via my mom's boyfriend, and I really liked it. I finally had time to read them all, and I'm so hooked it's not even funny.

.... Holy crap, you're the one who wrote all of those beautiful stories with Vaarsuvias and Belkar? Oh my god, you're the reason I drew this picture! Man, I can't believe it! You're like my OotS story-writing idol; seriously, it was like, fifteen minutes after I read "Loathing and Indifference" that I drew this, and now you have me shipping a couple I didn't even know existed out of fancrackdom. -laugh- No problem on the writing reviews for your stories; they were amazing and deserving of much praise.

Kaytara In reply to Rainbow-man [2011-01-18 17:45:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I knew about OotS a long time before I started reading it. I kept stumbling to quotes from it on TV Tropes, and eventually someone personally (and forcefully) recommended it. I binged the archive in three days or so. XD

Yeah, I compared the dates and had a feeling this pic had someone to do with my story. It's an odd feeling, such power and such responsibility. XD Muahaha!

I'm not "the one" with all the beautiful stories with V and Belkar, though. I mean, "Loathing and Indifference" is the only one with both of them. Water-Smurf, on the other hand, has at least three, her "Latin series". Totally awesomely written. ^^

Gods, for all that crackfics are an unholy abomination (that I found myself contributing to), I'm glad that movement happened. You can't imagine how the OotS fic archive looked before that. It had, what, five fics or so? >_<

You DO know that the V/B pairing is canon, sort of? >D Apparently, the latest book has a character chart with relations, and Belkar wants to "shtup" V, which is slang for... yeah. So, one-sided, at least. I hope the comic picks it up again soon, their prank war was one of my most favouritest episodes.

Rainbow-man In reply to Kaytara [2011-01-18 18:27:30 +0000 UTC]

You're in my brain! XD You hold sway over my fandom emotions; do not squander this responsibility! -laugh-

No, you are "the one." (Wow, that sounds so dramatic!) I've never read anything by Water-Smurf. In "No Accounting for Taste," at the very end you have a throw back to Belkar and V that made me laugh; I think it was those two stories coupled with the way you wrote Vaarsuvius in "A Alternate Angle" that really caught me in your stories, and thusly, the fandom.

Crackfics are hilarious and make my day. There was a Mass Effect Crack Fic between-- really weird-- Garrus and Kaiden. It made no sense, but it was so beautiful that I couldn't help but begin to secretly ship the pair of them. Very odd how much writing can have an effect on me. -laugh-

And... that makes me really happy. Like. Oh god. That makes me so happy. I had no idea.... I... oh god. My life sort of feels complete right now. I sort of want to buy all the comics now; I mean, I did before, but having all of the awesome extras could be SO WORTH IT. And it would be a lot easier getting my friends to read them if I can just hand them the book and make them read it opposed to having to go online and read it themselves.

Kaytara In reply to Rainbow-man [2011-01-21 00:01:51 +0000 UTC]

Ah, that explains it. I do recommend reading Water-Smurf's work - it's excellent, if deeply disturbing.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Crackfics done well can be the most fascinating thing ever. I think it's because it inherently involves pairing characters that may have very little in common, or even not know each other at all. You need to get into the heads of different characters and come up with a believable relationship for them, sometimes from scratch. Despite how ridiculous it sounds and how crackfics get treated like a joke, they can actually be the utmost writing and characterisation exercise. O.o

Happiness is good. ^^ I know the feeling - that phase when I was quite literally addicted to OotS, refreshed the site about fifty times a day, dreamed of new comics, dreamed that new comics had been posted, and scrambled desperately for any bit of fancontent I could find, which wasn't much at that time. Also, I totally had to walk uphill in the snow, both ways. XD

Don't get TOO worked up, though - I don't have the latest book yet, but in the others, there really isn't all that much material on V and Belkar. Some, yes, and a few great moments (I'm teasing you, aren't I? Sorry. ), but don't get yourself TOO hyped.

And yeah, print is for some reason better for converting unbelievers. Amen, brother! ^^

I like long responses. ^^ But then, I give as good as I get. XD

your pen work's improving!
if you get high grade paper, the bleed is better and you get smoother blending.

It's a little confusing at first, just because they sort of just thrust you into the story, but it's amazing. Uh, there's a lot of comics, so be warned. I spent like, three days straight just reading them. I didn't even realize that time went by. They're less comic and more epic novel. Seriously, they have me hooked. Uhgod.

XD Haha, I hope you like them. I swear, you're going to read them and punch me because you think they're lame.

Elan is the greatest, but I think Vaarsuvius takes the cake as far as my love. With that said, I think that every character in that story, with the exception perhaps of Durkon and Xykon, has a large part of my heart.

My hate for Durkon spawns for the fact that I FUCKING HATE DWARFS. UIGHngsrthknbf. IJHJBtnsthgf. estuhgf. sjg. d. sss.

Don't ask me why, because I don't know, but I fucking hate those guys, with their little beards, and thier elitist attitude. It's almost enough to make me kick everyone in the world with achondroplasia right in the balls. But that's not nice. In fact, that makes me a bad person. BUT IT STANDS.
