Still finishing out the sketches for the new and improved JLA roster and I am officially tossing another one of the younger generation into the big leagues.

One Mr. Virgil Hawkins has grown up and joined the team. Static Shock has arrived.

First things first, no hat. 2nd considerations, he still prefers to travel by disk. (though not a manhole cover this time.) This disk is not separately interlocking pieces anymore but instead consists of a singular foil of metal mesh fabric that holds its shape only so long as a charge is passed through it. (corners like a dream)... basically the guy has upgraded from a saucer to a badass flying carpet... Which means that instead of breaking it apart to fit into a duffel bag, he can fold, roll or crumple this one up and shove it into any decently sized pocket. It's a lot of fun.

There really aren't a lot of changes to his usual design here. I like the long flowing coat with colored trim and yellow lining. His colors are great. The lightning bolt that resembles and S is totally there but no longer contained inside the circle. His boots are custom and stylish. He has knee pads built into the pants. He still likes to rock the Leather. I ditched the mask but kept the goggles... the main thing here is that while he is not Black Lightning, I didnt want to change him into something else that he wasn't. He's not a hipster, nor a thug, nor stuck in the 90's. Plain and simple Virgil is still young and fashionable but he is the same lovable character that won us all over to begin with.

This is one of those cases where it made me think of watching the Fresh Prince Will Smith Grow into the world class action star Will Smith that we all know and love... So I sort of gave him my own personal nod in that direction by sticking Young Virgil with a serious case of ears just for fun .

I want to say that I always liked Virgil's hair, but I felt like I should pull it out of his face. So he is still rocking the dreadlocks in a serious way but now with an undershave and manbun.

Virgil has always been a fun character and I wanted an electric team member... I felt like he was the best fit for the team I was assembling.

So this is my sketch. He fits nicely in the ensemble. Hopefully people will like the results.
