Thank you very much!
I sent that to JK after Deathly Hallows came out, but before Beedle the Book was ever in the works. Got a letter back from her agent telling me to politely go away!

Hee hee. Yep. Fair enough, I bet JK gets hundreds of those. My letter was actually slightly different, they didn't refer me to warner brothers at all. What project were you trying to inquire about, if you don't mind me asking? I like my Beedle design too, I'll most likely steal it and use it as my own original character somewhere, because with a different name, he totally is!

I wanted to illustrate Beedle's Tales - long before they were published ... and sent them some links to my works.
What was the answer you got?

I actually dug it up the other day. Paraphrasedly:
"Dear Ray Friesen, thanks for enclosing your graphic novel, and a sketch of how you imagine JK's 'Beedle the Bard' character. We are responding on JK's behalf, as she is very busy. JK is releasing her own version of Beedle, as you may be familiar. Unfortunately, that means JK has no interest in collaborating with other writers or illustrators. Sorry for the disappointing response. We return your GN for lack of space.
Best wishes, Emma Schlesinger."
How similar ws taht to yours? Did you think up any original beedle ideas, or just riffing and illustrating hers?

Yeah, she has drawings in the Quidditch and Fantastic beasts books too, I always thought she was a few notches above 'non-artistic' but not exactly what you would call a professional illustrator. I like your very tactful way of saying that.
Can't wait for whatever story she decides to write next -- I'd love to see something that's not harry pottery in the slightest, maybe a larger format less words kids book to amuse her own children.

It was just a very nice form letter 'thank you for your interest in JK Rowling, blah blah" I've got it around here somewhere, I can pull it up and transpose it if you wish

Hmm, can't seem to find it. I thought it was important enough to keep, but not enough to keep in a place where I remember. Sorry! If I stumble across it, though...
