Description Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird was an advanced, long-range, Mach 3.3+ strategic reconnaissance aircraft. It was developed as a black project from the Lockheed A-12 reconnaissance aircraft in the 1960s by Lockheed and Skunk Works. The SR-71 served with the USAF from 1964 to 1998. Of the 32 aircraft built, 12 were lost in accidents, though none to enemy action.

I had a chance to see the final flight of one of these jets at Edwards Air Force Base the summer of 1998.  That was an amazing experience that I will never forget!

One of these jet is now on display just outside of the California Science Center in Los Angeles and is always a treat to see.

Uwielbiam go!

I know one of the guys who was one of the original test pilots for this airplane. He even flew sorties in the A-12 over North Korea at one point!

Really nice!
